My Doctor finally convinced me that I HAVE to lose 30 pounds and exercise (basically told me to). So I bought a new Cannondale F4 the first week of January and I have been riding at least once a week since then on the trails. I love it. Have spent a little more than I wanted just so that I can have the correct winter riding gear, but it made all the difference.
Now that there is well over a foot of snow on the ground I pulled out my trusty Trek 7100 and put it on the trainer to continue my journey.
I'm 6'3' and 225 desperately trying to finally kick the smoking habit and change my eating ways. I really hope my lung capacity increases and I am sure my knees will strengthen over time. I can go about 20 minutes on the trainer before my knees tell me to take a break. Nothing wrong with them, I am just out of shape.
I am now trying to come up with a plan on when and how long to ride on a consistent basis along with proper nutrition. I'm also planning on going to my local lbs today to check out the road bikes. The hybrid is OK and does the job but now that I know some more about the sport I think I want to do more than the local bike paths for those days that the trails are not ridable. My goal is to be physically fit enough before the summer to ride safely on the road.
