Road Cycling - Your Comments on TUFO Tires

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I saw the ad and am curious what kind of experiences people have had with these. I like the ride of tubulars, but switch to clinchers some time back. My new R3000 came with Mavic Kryserium's SL's clinchers and I'm not about to replace these with another set of $700+ wheels. Do they where well? How puncture resistent are they? Do they handle shock well? (Broke one of these expensive spokes after 2000 mi.) Do they really feel like tubulars? etc.
I just put a set on my wife's bike. They were tough to get on but it's obvious that these are quality tires. For the brief period that I tried her bike they provide a comfortable ride, unlike say continentals, that seem like you are riding on solid steel. They can take a ton of air pressure if you want. Next time I need tires I'm going to get a set.

I've got Tufo's on my new Time - mounted on Zipp 404's. Agreed about the mounting. I ended up bring 'em in to my LBS. I gave up. They called me later & said that THEY had to fight with them for over an hour. They did finally get them mounted & so far so good. I keep mine at around 140PSI and they are rock hard. Takes a little getting used to... no punctures so far & definitely feel like a quality tire.
I'm running a pair of Elite Roads (tubular) and like them quite a bit.
Very high quality tire. So far they are durable, the tread doesn't wear down
easily. These tires compare to the old Clement Paris Roubaix tire.
As stated in a different thread (and not by me) the tubular clincher
has a specific method for mounting and any other method is damned near
impossible.
just my .02 worth
