Foo - Anybody tanning?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

One of my friends describes me as "florescent white". I prefer to say that I'm two shades lighter than chalk.

Not now. I tanned for about 6 weeks before we went to Mexico in the fall, and I'm planning on tanning a little before my May wedding.
It IS nice though. So warm & relaxing....

my 1st session was only 4 minutes, but it was a fun 4 minutes. I used a stand up booth.

Not for a week now, it's too cold at 70, have to wait until the 80s return

I tan in the dark. I *still* have some color from my November trip to Mexico.
I got off the plane to Des Moines in December and my bud that picked me up said "Man, you're *tan*!"

I'm sure that the fine folks of this forum who are busy digging out from the recent snow storm in the northeast United States would want to say something along the lines of "We hate you" but being the fine folks that they are would not do so. :D

No...I'll get my skin cancer the natural way, thank you very much.

Only during prime bike season. The natural way. On the bike..

I still have residual glove/jersey/short tan lines from last season.

Ditto.
I go to a smoking mandatory tanning salon. Nothing goes better with some deadly light than an unfiltered Camel.

I miss smoking. No I don't tan. Summer hits down here and you tan in twenty minutes. That and the whole maybe causes skin cancer thing. That would suck.

I used to go tanning before I started riding. It was a good way for me to get some UV with my schedule. Screw skin cancer, I have eczema. My eczema is soothed by UV.

I can still see the tan lines on my legs from the summer. I'll wait until shorts season to get my tan back.
Of course I am tanning, if takes effort to look this good :-P
Actually. It is usually late in the season when I develop a cycling tan.
but I have lines on my arms and legs from last year.

My masculinity prevents me from doing so. I charge into the tropical blasts of sunlight in pasty-white glory. Like a man.

With a family heritage of Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and German, tanning is simply not an option. Last summer when I was leaving a supermarket late at night, I heard a woman behind me say to her friend, "Look at those pasty legs!" We were the only three people in the immediate vicinity. So what if I inspired this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE4Cb7knYbE)? One of my great grandfathers was actually maned Casper.
Also, in the interest of public safety, Stupidly Brave and I no longer ride next to each other at the Lancaster Covered Bridges metric century. The combined glare off our legs could blind the entire ride (all 3,000+).

I wore shorts for a couple of sunny days we had recently. I still had long sleeves and gloves on so just the tops of my knees got a little color.
I still have my summer cycling tan lines. I'll just add to that outside, while riding my bike.
I spend 5 days a month in Barbados so have a perma tan. No need to stand or lay in a booth at home.

What part? I found Bathsheba to be particularly appealing.....and the man with the monkey there selling necklaces was a pretty cool fellow.
My right shoulder has a scar from body surfing in front of the hotel (Bougainvillea Resort in Ostins) when the wave crashed me into the rocks at the bottom....was a lot of fun up till that point.

I find tanning on purpose is a waste of time. If I get darker by being outside, sweet.

Friend owns a tanning business so yea. Im secure in my manhood that tanning will not make people think different.
Also, I find that after tanning (I usually start at the beginning of February) I tan much better and more even.

I normally stay in St Michaels, either the Hilton or Accra but quite enjoy Crane every once in a while as well. Crane is better for cycling as far as road access. I hate working my way through Bridgetown.
Being close to the Gap is nice and I really like the boardwalk. Great addition.
I got scaped by a turtle while surfing once and that infected like no tomorrow.
Our corporate office is in Oistins so I try to avoid it, except for the Friday night fish fry.
and yes, Bathsheba is beautiful.

Tanning is cool for those who need it but it looks so fake, thank goodness my family was gifted with the ability to tan in the shade :thumb: so we never needed tanning booths, but a few people I know do it and are still doing it, even in this snow hell Philly has become, they always ask me "how do I look?" and my reply is always "fake." :)
just went for my 1st session
good luck with that.
tanning, it's serious business.

I don't do my face, I just sit in the sun for that. I consider tanning pinstripes for the bod. I have a friend who likes the way it looks and she has some pretty neat tan lines too!

How weird - just walk outside if you want a tan, in fact, you can get a tan through your clothes down here... It explains so much, Latinos really aren't darker than Gringos you see, just better tans.
By the way, my wife who was as white as anyone you know has managed to get a tan down here. The tropical sun will tan anyone I think.
Less sunburn and skin cancer down here than up there too by the way. We actually have ozone.

Not so, my family on my dads side (besides me?!) are dark Latinos, my dad and his siblings have been in the states for well over 50 years and are all just as dark as they were on the island. :thumb:

I was joking, more emoticons needed? :D
I actually get darker than most Costa Ricans since they are mainly European, and I am part indigenous.

50 mile ride and the streets were wet today, so I got home with a temporary lower leg spray tan. AWESOME tanlines after sock removal!!!

Spend some time in the islands and you will be convinced that whiteys should avoid the sun. Caucasian sun worshippers look rotten in later years. Blotchy, horribly wrinkled and... old.
No, check that. There is nothing wrong with looking old, we all will. People that destroy their skin - on purpose - look worse than old.

The tanner you get young, the worse you look old. Same for smoking.

I don't know about you, but I looked Blotchy, horribly wrinkle when I was born. I just figure I am looking young again.
