General Cycling Discussion - Grabaawr

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife and I have some interest in this ride, we have never rode any type of ride like this, we are not hard core, we ride weekends about 30 mile each day, this is not that hard for us, what can we expect on this ride if we do it?

You might consider SAGBRAW to maybe wet your appetites with these sorts of rides. Check it out at:

SAGBRAW appears to be the same type ride over a week’s period but is much shorter mileages.
We've not ridden GRABAAWR, but hope to this summer (our app is just sent in recently). We've done several RAGBRAI’s and some other cross state rides. GRABAAWR appears to be easier than some of these. I could be wrong but we'll hopefully find out in late June-early July.
Gus is right, SAGBRAW has shorter mileages than GRABAAWR. It also tends to be a bit more layed back. I've seen people do both with essentially no training. I seldom train with more than 30 miles per day, but during the 4-6 weeks before the tour I try to ride at least 20 miles 3 times a week.
On either tour you will find a wide variety of riders. Some will zoom by and others will cruise at 10 mph. There will be all ages from teens to 70's. Most days on either tour you can cut mileages by free-lancing parts of the route. Both tours are very well run and a lot of fun.

I think we might try it, sounds like a lot of fun, thanks for info
I am riding. Anyone want to hook up. I am doing it solo. Need company.
Well... this thread certainly got resurrected! I hope you're able to hook up with folks.

...and we did ride it, and it was a very good one. I would recommend it to anyone. It is much tamer than RAGBRAI with a lot less riders. That makes for a little bit more of a personable week. We met and still communicate with some really nice people from that week.
Does anyone know of anybody that is riding this year?
