Okay, FOOniverse, I am not asking for medical advice; rather, I am asking which direction to take regarding contacting a doctor about something. I am presenting this as serious business, despite what you are about to read a few inches down below...

I have had this cyst-like thing since I was about 14 years old. It has been there for the past 18 years with no change and I have never thought anything of it as I have a few cysts in other parts of my body that are harmless. But, something tells me that maybe it is time to think about this particular one.

I don't go to a regular physician, and here are some important details which may explain why I wouldn't talk to a normal physician about this anyway:
---The cyst thing is just above my scrotum.
---I randomly found this term: "sebaceous cyst", which seems to describe it, but again, see its location.
---It is very hard to find (my wife can't find it; only I can).
---You can only find it when I have an erection (since it seems to be near the major blood vessel, which makes it possible to be found at that certain time).
---How do I approach a doctor about finding a cyst in that particular spot only to be found when I have an erection?
---Would people think I am some type of perv or misguided in some way if I prefer to only have a female doctor have a look at it?
---I am only assuming it is a cyst; it might not be, which is why I figure it should be checked out even though it hasn't changed a bit in 18+ years.

It has taken me 3 years to ask this, so go easy on me.

But, basically, what type of doctor do I call who would not bat an eye when I ask about this?

Urologist.

See, that was easy.

Urologist.

I thought urologists dealt specifically with the inner workings of the plumbing only. I guess I think too hard, like usual.

Working in healthcare, I would see a urologist. It may not be a cyst. Google 'pearly penile papules' and look at the pictures.

If you love yourself (and sex) as much as you should have it checked out dude, ASAP! I would.

I recommend an oriental massage therapist. I have names, although I doubt they are real.

Do not see Chipcom about this. I too would see a urilogist and then go from there. I also like the consonance of pearly penile papules.

"Pearly penile papules" would be an excellent name for a band.

I agree. They could open for The Butthole Surfers. What a brilliant marquee that would be........

I'd see a regular doctor and ask for opinion. But I see my physician regularly at least once a year. An internist may know better what specialist to direct you to. There is nothing weird, funny or shameful about discussing you health problems with a doctor, no matter how sensitive and intimate they may be. They've seen a lot of stuff and nothing will surprise them. It's your health and life on stake, nothing to be bashful about.

Like that lady on a trip who got bitten by a poisonous snake in the butt when she went to the bushes about her business. She was too shy to tell anyone in her group about it. She died by the end of the day.

You may have to start with a "normal" physician (a general practice/family practice type), because you may not get to see a specialist (or have your insurance pay for it) without a referral. One of the jobs of such a physician is to know what sort of specialist (if any) is necessary. And you approach a doctor (or his/her staff) about it by stating what your problem is, as simply and directly as you can.
