Training & Nutrition - Bicycle Trainers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anybody have a bicycle trainer? I was thinking that it would be a good idea to get one for the winter but since I don't know a lot about them I thought I should get someone's opinion first. Do they allow you to have a decent workout? Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated

I have a CycleOps Fluid trainer and I'm very happy with it. That is, as happy as I can be when my outdoors training is limited by the weather! The level of the workout is really only limited by what you put into it. Here's a link to their web site: CycleOps Fluid2 trainer (http://www.cycle-ops.com/products/fluidsquared.htm).
I also have the CycleOps fluid trainer. I like it, but of course, like Denise, I'd rather be outside! This year, I also plan on getting rollers, so I will have a little variety, plus I have several video tapes of bike races to keep me going when the going gets tough.
What are you looking for, exactly?

You first need to decide if you want a mag trainer or rollers.

I have the CycleOps Fluid2 too. It will give you the resistance that the rollers won't. Use rollers to improve the efficiency of your cycling. It will force you to be evenly balanced.

Right now I'm just trying to get as much information about them as I can and then decide which one would be better for me. But from what I've learned so far I like the CycleOps Fluid better because it is quiet and I can do other things while on the bike.
I have to ask, what are rollers? I don't have a trainer either and I was contemplating this subject myself. I know about the mags, but I haven't a clue what a roller is.

 Whoa....that looks very dangerous. I think I will stay away from those. The funny thing was, that was similiar to what I pictured in my head. Thanks for the info, I will check out the website.

You can get this front fork attachment until you want to try them for real.
I can only imagine how much dog hair that those rollers would attract. I have to vacuum twice a week as it is, and I don't have carpet.
