Interesting, but I don't think I'll hold my breath. The Ski goggles are expected to be available in Fall of 2010. They don't even have a mock-up of anything for biking, just a claim that they'll be "stylish, compact sunglasses". Judging from the bulk of the ski goggles, I have my doubts about how compact the sunglasses will be. And they'd better have interchangeable clear lenses, because I do a lot of riding after dark and I don't want to have to wear sunglasses.

Still, maybe they'll be worth looking at in a few years. At least the price on the ski goggles is reasonable at $350-450. That's not much worse than a GPS bike computer.

Hmmm, I also don't see any mention of battery life. That's always an issue with GPS. I wonder how much battery they can fit into stylish, compact sunglasses? Well, by the time they're available, battery technology will have advanced again.

If these things get produced, I'm not sure you'll be seeing any versions sold for activities that involve people navigating public roads, where distraction could cause an accident. In fact, if you see an increase in skiing accidents by people wearing these things I suspect the company will get hit with lawsuits that may force it to withdraw the product from the market. Many people, I suspect, without training, may have problems viewing data on goggles or glasses and continue to maintain their line of site on where they're going. Just because something can be made doesn't mean that it should be made.

I really don't see the point of HUDs for skiing at all.

When I'm skiing, I'm looking at the surface of the snow, I'm looking at obstacles, I'm trying to predict what that snowplowing poser 200 yards downhill is going to do next, I'm looking for ice/corduroy/washboard/moguls/rocks/sticks... I'm looking at everything except at those HUD screens.

If that kind of data is really important to someone, they're going too damned fast to read it anyway, because they're doing their race training. Might as well use a GPS thing that logs each run and compare them on the lift or in the lodge.

How about voice activated targeting computer controlling gas jets shooting "dog-b-gone" out the rear chain stays. I could of used them on two pit bulls who had escaped from the junk yard and chased me to work the other morning.

I have since found that my helmet mounted 900 lumen light (thanks to you guys on this forum) was extremely effective as a mutt repellent.
