Sorry for the rant but I just can't deal with bad companies.

I order a frame adapter for my bike rack a week ago. They can't tell me if it shipped or when it will ship. I tried to cancel the order they won't let me do that. They can't contact the shipping to find out what the deal is. The only answer is they will leave a note for thier supervisor and he will call me back. But of course he is not in today. I left a note yesterday, another today. I am going on vacation in a week and half and I need that part. Ahhhhhhhhhh...h.h.h.h.h.h..h.h.h.

Ok I thought that would make me feel better. Not.

What's going on with Performance? For once in my life they had Continental 650c tires at 60% off. I've never had a deal like that on 650's so I ordered them on Aug. 4. Last week they had not been delivered so I called. Same run around "They haven't been shipped, don't know when they'll be shipped, etc."

Anyway, to add to the frustration, the tires came today. The order said (2) 650cx23 Continental GP 3000's but I received 1- 650x23 and 1-700x20. What good does that do me?

I did call and they are overnight shipping the correct size. The sidewalls are different colors, the box distinctly states the size. So what's their problem?

Anyone can make mistakes I guess and I hope this makes you feel better.

Seems to be the trend with performance lately. They have been innaccurate.

I've never had a problem with them in the past or recently.

fernanc2, racks are cheap, go buy a new rack at your LBS and enjoy your vacation. Cancel the order or refuse delivery on the part from Performance.

lovemyswift, Performance overnight shipping because they made a mistake impresses me.

This seems to be a case of you-get-what-you-pay-for. Performance is sometimes cheaper than LBS, but there is an increased hassle factor. You have to decide if it's worth the it.

I made my first PerfomanceBike order last week. They say they shipped 3 days ago . We'll see if it arrives OK. My complaint is that they charged the credit card when they received the order, which was 5 days before they shipped. A company that can't always complete orders should not charge for something until it is in a box on the way to the customer.

But remember, nothing's perfect, even your LBS. If your LBS doesn't have something in stock, they have to order it. And there can be delays in that process, too. I had one LBS sit on an important order for a few days before submitting it (not a huge deal, but annoying). Another LBS ordered the wrong size. Then ordered the right size. When the right size came in, they put it on the floor and sold it. They finally ordered the right size again, which I received about 6 weeks after my order.

One key lesson: If it's a relatively inexpensive but necessary part, get extras. I keep extra cables, brake pads and tubes. When my PerformanceBike order comes in, I'll have an extra chain (I go through one about every six months). I'm thinking about getting an extra tire. If you keep a few key parts at home, shipping delays are less likely to keep you off the road. Your orders will just be to replenish your backup supplies.

Performance is becoming a behemoth in the bicycle mail order industry. Performance, Nashbar, and Supergo are essentially the same company.

There are plenty of reputalble online dealers with great prices and great customer service - I haven't bought from Performance/Nashbar in years.

.

That would explain why my Nashbar order was never shipped or even responded to. Their website ordering is a waste of time, they are always out of stock. F'em...back to LBS.

Isn't it a bit ironic that Performance shows up as a "sponsored link" of this thread?

As I've related in other threads, I've always had poor experiences with Performance. However, I've had pretty good experiences with JensonUSA. Granted, JensonUSA doesn't have quite the supposed selection that Performance claims to have but if Performance can't live up to their delivery responsibilities then what's the difference? FWIW, the selection in Performance's stores are no better or worse than any other LBS.

FWIW- I think the bike industry as a whole is behind the standards of most other retailers (both web and local bricks & mortar stores). That said, I've done OK with Performance. Whenever an order has not gone perfectly, every resolution has been in my favor. For example, when shipping on my last order was delayed ( by 2 or 3 days), they shipped it overnight at no extra charge. I continue to use Performance without reservation. Their prices are competitive and their selection is better than most.
