Looking for some input. Starting my second full season of tri and would like to get a tri bike. Have done a few half ironmans and I am going to do another 2 this year before doing IM Lake Placid July 2011. I really like Felts bikes and have pretty much decided to get one. I have about 1800$ saved right now. By June I should be able to have around 2500$. Not sure if I should pull the trigger on the B14 or wait to get the B12 which is about 500$ more. I do realize that I still need pedals. I guess I am wondering if the B12 is worth waiting until the end of summer or fall when I will have another 500 saved.

I dont really know that much about the differences. Same wheels and frame looks like. Different crankset FSA Gossamer TT Mega EXO 2-piece cold-forged aluminum 54/42T crankset with CNC 7075/T6 Aero aluminum chainrings; Shimano 10 speed chain; 12-25T cassette on the B14.
Ultegra 53/39T crankset; Shimano 10-speed chain; 12-25T cassette on the B12.

Not sure if it matters but I am a pretty big rider. 6' 4'' 200 pounds

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

just picked up a 09 B16 yesterday for under 1800 dollars. I did swap the rear derailleur to a Ultegra (up from the 105) and the aero bars to a set of T2+. I did get credit for the stuff they took off the bike, so that was cool too. This is the first carbon fiber frame and it was a much better ride than my Trek Aluminum bike I have been riding.

Here is somewhat of a contrarian opinion. And biases (because bikes are a personal preference afterall). I do all my tris on vintage steel bikes. I cannot stand aluminum and I break carbon fiber. For the 2010 season, I have 2 tri bikes set up: a Reynolds 531 1987 Trek with a triple crankset (yes a triple) that tips the scales at about 21 lbs and a full Dura Ace custom-made Ishiwata 019 circa 1989 with a 2 by 7 configuration with a 12-19 corncob with a 53/39 crank (that is about 19 lbs as we speak :) ).

At the close to $2K budget you have, you can get a pretty awesome high end steel frame and top of the line components (and still keep a grand or more in the bank)

interested in learning more about your steel tri bikes. some pics and details would be nice. i just completed my first tri on my daily rider, (mid 80's mino denti, columbus, campy). i must admit that i was passed often by guys on high end carbon tri bikes.
