Bicycle Mechanics - How to remove the cleat covers off SPD shoe?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Dumb question. But I can't remove the part where I am supposed to fit the SPD cleat off of my Shimano SPD shoe.
It's this yellow part. Do I need to knife the suckah?

Yup. But the yellow part is only in the center of the section you need to remove.
Use a fresh blade and slice along the molded groove all the way around. Pry up an end and tear the section off. You might have to use some pliers.
Often, the SPD plate on the other side of the slots (you'll see when you get in there) is stuck in place too. It needs to slide to adjust the cleat position, so breaking it loose by pushing on it would be a good idea.
