Fifty Plus (50+) - Riding your age

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just did the 56 mile route of the Tour de Palm Springs saturday and my 52nd birthday is tuesday. Is that close enough or do i need to call in "sick" tuesday and ride?

You need to ride 4 miles backwards to subtract the mileage you rode too far.

Call in sick on Tuesday and do a 52 mile "recovery ride".

What I love about BF is all the sage advice from real experts!
Happy birthday. I'd say it counts, but I also like Jet's idea.

If I can ride my age once a year (before I have to add another mile) I'm happy. If I can ride my age several times in a year I'm even more happy. If I can play hooky from work and ride, I'm delirious!

Fail
There are two glaring mistakes on why it doesn't count
No pics
No mention of PIE.
Nice training ride for the real birthday ride on Tuesday though.
Wish i could ride tuesday but something about a mortgage, bills and love of eating keeps getting in the way. I'm just going to have to do a few extra penalty miles on saturday and then a little:beer:
I say it counts. Close counts in horseshoes and bicycle rides.

I'd say that's close enough TJClay!
But Stapfam is right, no pie. It was a lovely day for a bike ride. My wife and I rode the 103 mile course. I rode my fixed gear bike, she rode with all the gears (since she is actually smarter than I am).
I really liked the live music at each rest stop, great food and drinks, mechanical support by KHS Bicycles and really, the whole town of Palm Springs seemed to support the rides.
The fixed gear really beat me up on the descents (42 x 15t = 75" gear), but the climbs and flat bits were fun! You know, there must have been somewhere in Palm Springs to buy pie, but we went out to Ruby's and had burgers and fries instead.
Next time, get pie and you'll be good to go!
Added photo above to show our little group at the finish of Palm Springs. I'm 2nd from left, my wife is far right. We all did the 103.

Can I hijack this slightly? Does anyone do anything special for their birthday ride (aside from doing the miles, I mean)? Pie is an obvious theme, though I'm partial to cake or torte.
Special route? Special munchies?
A flask for those last couple of miles? ;)

Myrtle, did you hear that? Stapfam just said "Fail". If he says "You suck" I'm going to have the big one.

Sure it counts, for your 51st birthday ride. But Tuesday you'll have another birthday and you will need to ride your new age. Better get going.

Alright, but it's gonna have to wait till this saturday.

It ain't fair! I ride more miles in colder temperatures and yet it doesn't work because I'm older. :)
But, the key is you are enjoying your rides and I am too. Good riding friend!

Or, like I tell all my friends, the only thing wrong with unemployment is the lack of income. :D
Happy (belated) Birthday!

In our group, each person designs his own century route. I was supposed to go on this on a week ago with a small group. From what I hear, I was better off spending the day with my grandson in the hospital. It was 31 deg when they arrived at the lake, and there was a stiff breeze most of the day. Took them 7.5 hrs. I think I would have bonked.
