I ride on Wed. and Sunday......I do 60 miles on Wed. and 50 on Sunday. I would like to ride every day, but my job hours won't allow it.

20 mile one-way commute - 4 legs per week. Weekend rides between 30 and 60 miles. 4 organized centuries. 1 double century. Total miles to date for '04 - about 3500.

Rather than miles, I'm going by time in the saddle... right now I do 75 minutes a day, 5 days a week, with a 90 minute ride on the sixth day... those will increase until I'm doing 90 minutes a day and 2.5-3 hours for my lsd.

g'day,

Hmmm.....you won't get a definative average, but, as at last night, I've done 5625 miles for this calender year...If i divide that by the days gone so far this year (230) I get 24.46 miles per day...s'pose thats my average....hmmm, must be spending to much time talkin' to the wife rather than ridin'...hafta remedy that!,

cheers,

Being temporarily unemployed I have a little more time on my hands than most. I ride at least 6 days a week and average 35 miles a ride with 60+ mile rides once a week or whenever I feel like it. For the last couple weeks I've had to guess my mileage because my computer is in Phoenix on the side of the road somewhere

15-60 miles a day. The length of my ride is entirely dependent on how much time I have. I intern in the morning and work at night, so my free time (of which I have very little), is devoted to riding, sleeping and eating.

i work 5 days a week, either 8a-4p or 1p-10p.

on the morning work days, i can ride about 20 miles in the evening. On the
night work days, i can only fit in about 10 or 15 miles as I have other errands and netflix rentals to tend to =)

On my days off I try to get at least 30 miles in, since im new to road biking in still working on building up to higher distances in shorter timespans

I commute daily 4 miles each way which gives me 8-16 miles, depends on whether I ride home for lunch or eat at work.

I have been averaging around 300 Miles a week as of late. I do commute daily 30M RT & usually stretch that to around 50 Miles on days with nice weather. I try & do one longer ride on the weekend, usually 75 Miles or so. I really TRY to take a rest day during the week, but I usually wait until the rain tells me to....

I'm getting ready for a cycling vacation in the Eastern Sierra so I'm riding 6 days a week (and feeling strong).
Twice a week I get at least 70 and 80 miles with medium hills.
Twice a week at least 45 miles with big hills.
Once a week 30 miles flat.
So around 250 to 270 miles a week.

On good weeks (defined as weeks where I don't do business travel), I can steal away for about 40 miles per day during the weekdays and longer 60+ miles rides during the weekends. However those weeks can sometimes be few and far between as evidenced by the fact that I just came back from three weeks without any saddle time at all (5 back-to-back weeks of almost constant travel). Also, I tend to slack during the winters. Last winter I think I got in a total of 300 miles over the course of 3 months. I would have to say that I'm averaging more like 180-200 miles per week this year when everything is amortised.

Can't depend on each day being equal in terms of available time...My goal is at least 150 miles a week...Usually get in 4 bike days...Never more than 5..Each week I get in a long ride of at least 60 miles. And one day a commute to work which is 54 miles. During the summer months on a good month, I might have a 800 mile month.
IF you do the math, guess my daily average for the year is about 25 miles/day.

25 miles a day Mon-Fri plus a nice long ride on Sat or Sun mostly 65 miles (100K).

Being temporarily unemployed I have a little more time on my hands than most.
Same here only my situation doesn't seem to be temporary. :fight:
Depending on my mood (happy, depressed, bored), the weather, and time, I ride 5-6 days a week and do 25-40 miles each day.

Weekdays (almost everyday) 30-35 miles each day, and then 65-80 miles on weekends. Have about 6200 miles this calendar year and shooting for 7500.
Some people ask if I have a job.....I just tell them its in the garage waiting for me.

Since about March I have done between 60 to 200 miles a week, with most weeks in the 120 mile range.

For the next couple weeks I'm trying to do at least 25-30 miles a day at a touring pace, with 40-80 mile rides on weekends. I'm trying to prepare for a week-long tour where I will probable do about 70 miles a day with touring load (tent, bag, food, water, clothes, tools, etc.)

I usually ride every other day especially with my big long rides. Usually I bike about 50-60 miles on those days, if not I go by time. I was out the other day for a good 5-7 hours just biking where the road took me.

christ, i need to ride more...

i get like, 6 miles a day with my commute, and i'm lucky to get 35 on the weekends, but when i do get out on weekends, i try to do the hilliest routes possible. last sunday i did 35 miles, with 4,482ft of total elevation gain. calcycling.org terms it as a "moderate" ride.

i work 11am-7pm, at a bike shop, so i'm usually pretty drained by the time i get home, and it's getting dark earlier lately...i've contemplated heading out to get some morning miles in, but i'm worried that i'll end up not having enough energy to get through the day without ringing one of my co-workers' necks. some days, it takes a lot of effort to not do that...

As you can see,no average. Everybody is different. Some ride and some commute. I ride right after i get home from work, around 2:30 and do 20-22 on Mon,Wed,Thur and 35-40 on Sat and 15-20 on Sun if i feel like it and the last Sat of each month,a 50 miler. I'm pretty happy if i can keep that 100 miles aweek.

Guess, I set a high goal...Always want to exceed 2002, when I did 8900 miles..That is 170 a week..
So far this year, I have completed 4904 as of today.. Looks not to promising that I will meet my goal...
My wife does not understand this goal setting, even though she see's me religiously adding my miles in my bike log.

Per day? it's hard to say, on an average about 150 miles/week, (I'm single) :) . Sometimes I do that on a weekend; a lot depends on the weather, how much I sleep, and what my ride partners are up to. When alone I hardly ever plan a ride, just kinda end up someplace, then I have to ride back home.

If we wanted to make an average I would say maybe 300-350 miles a week, but I will have to check.

Well I am new to road cycling, seeing as though I just bought my bike last week. But I have been riding 3 times a week for an average of 15miles each day, but I plan on building on that as I get more acustom to the switch of gears from mountain to road.

I don't like to go out on weekdays unless it's gonna be 20 miles or an hour or both (and it usually is). On Sundays, I ride with my LBS and we get about 35. I tend to average about 90-100 miles a week (4 days of riding usually). Recently though, in preparation for a century and then an MS 150 in Oct, I've been pulling 40, 50, 60 mile rides, so my weekly average has been better (150 this week).

If I can get 15 miles each on 3 weekdays, and a 50-60 miler in on the weekends, I consider myself lucky. I've got 3 kids and they are getting old enough to be left without it being a big deal to my wife, and a full-time job with a non-cycling commute (NYC, just too much trouble to even consider).

I just came back from vacation and while I was hoping to do about 150 miles for the week, I only got in 100. I just didn't want to leave everyone on their own, although the beachfront cottage should have been enough for them. 2 travel days, and one mid lake rescue of an overturned sailboat, also got in the way. At least I got some hills in.

15 to 25 miles a day is actually very good if your not wanting to race competively and just want to be in good physical condition. When I use to race I averaged about 33 miles a day; but now I only ride every other day and ride about 25-30 miles each time. When your married with children and work it's difficult to go riding everyday. I do commute to work everyday but that's only 3 miles, so everyother day I take a 25 to 30 mile detour home. On either a Saturday or Sunday I usually take a 50 to 100 mile ride depending on time constraints.

I average about 100 miles per week. I commute to work everyday, which is only about 9 miles roundtrip direct, but I try to make it a training ride at least 3 days a week. Just like Froze, I take detours from the commute. Then I try to get a long ride (40+ miles) on the weekend. Today I was able to get in a 100 mile day since my wife and kids were at Grandma's house and I didn't have to rush home from the group ride to change diapers.

5-6 days a week, between 15 and 25, some days hard, some days climbing, some spinning. Every Sunday I ride at least 30. I really would like to double that by this time next year...right now I am just working through getting my fitness back after a long time off the bike.

Man..If we had chosen years ago to have kids...In part, I would be happy to have trained them to get about on the bike..How, would I react to having to escort them in a car; when I try to NOT use it for my own purposes...
Think I would have worked on them at an early age to indoctrinate them as to the evils of the auto culture. My kids became couch potatoes, they would have to content with my values. Schools etc, usually have bike racks..Been happy to escort them to a school bike rack in route to work on my bike.

Miles per week isn't the gauge that I go by. Yesterday I did 55 very hard miles with my HR between 165-190 for 1.5 hours. For 37 miles we were riding into a 25+mph head wind and did two very good climbs into that head wind. My buddy, who is an ex Cat1, got sick (some bad chicken) and was puking so I had to ride in front the whole time. It was raining off and on and was overall pretty miserable.

This morning I did 65 miles and my HR was below 155 the whole time. I just rode in the 39t the whole ride and spun to streach my legs, easy easy the whole time ave speed 18 mph. By far the 55 mile ride was much much harder. Hell I've done 30 mile efforts at or just above my LT that were harder than some of the centuries that I've done. I guess for me it's quality of the miles not the quantity.

140-160 miles a week. In between that I help raise a 6 yr old daughter going on 18 and two 2 yr old's hitting terrible two's at the same time! That should count for an extra 60 miles a week!

I think if you work, have kids and have to keep the wife happy,100 miles aweek is pretty good.

This is why the commute/detour is key for me. My wife and the kids usually sleep until at least 7:30, which is the time I'd be heading out the door to go to work. But if I leave before 6:30, I can get in 20-25 miles before work and nobody misses me. In the afternoons, I come home more or less directly.

Do you bike in your work clothes or change when you get there? I was kinda thinking about commuting but I'd have to like pack clothes/shoes for work plus find a decent route. Omaha is not a very biker freindly city.
