Bicycle Mechanics - What Should It Cost?

So I was wondering what any of you would include in a Basic "tune -up" . I would consider it a >cleaning and adjusting of the drivetrain,adjusting derailluers>adjusting of brakes> check and adjust BB and headset> and check and adjust wheel bearings>general lube and clean> truing of the wheels. How much would one expect to pay for a tune-up at a bike shop? I would think if you have to take apart or regrease the headset or bb it would go beyond "tune-up". correct me if im wrong, I would just like to know what you consider a basic "tune-up" on a bike that is not beat to heck, and what it should cost?

You pretty much got the basic tune-up. You're looking at probably around $60'ish.

$45 for a basic tune up, pretty much what you described without the cleaning. $65 if you want us to wash it and put a little polish on it. Parts are extra if you need any, and if a something needs to be overhauled, it will add to the labor costs. Sometimes, the cleaning isn't optional. If you bring in a bike from a muddy trail, or a very wet road ride, we will have to hose it down first.

On a side note, if it's not really busy, I'll usually wipe down your bike and make it presentable, gratis.

$65 for the tune-up you describe. If it comes in dirty, it leaves dirty beyond a wipe down on parts worked on. +$20 if we have to wash it to work on it.

$125 for the above with drivetrain de-grease, bike wash and polish.

$225 for the whole caboodle, bike torn down to bare frame and reassembled, everything cleaned and greased.

What you described with a full clean and relube to all the bearings and re-truing of the wheels would be considered a full tuneup. My LBS does a full tune up like that for $65 with parts extra. There's actually quite a bit of work to break the stuff down to get access to those items for cleaning and lubing.
