Coming back out to CO this summer, after having missed last year. I want to do Trail Ridge Rd from Estes Park but, want to take Old Fall River on the way up. Is that doable with a road bike (23-25's)? I hear it's dirt hard pack but, would rather get the word from other people's experience.
Thanks in advance!

i wouldnt do it on a roadie.

maybe cx, but its too chewed up for road slicks to be any fun, and the switchbacks are pretty steep and somewhat loose.

much better served on a mtb or cx machine (provided your have a cx with pretty low gearing)

Agreed with badhat.

While I'd say its doable on a roadie with slicks, I don't think it'd be much fun at all.

I did it on a road bike once years ago. It was no problem, but maybe the conditions have changed.

Sounds pretty unanimous. Thanks for the heads up folks. I really appreciate being able to get this kind of valuable feedback from willing and helpful folks here. Guess I'll stick to the road up and down. In either case, looking forward to getting back out to CO.
