Foo - My County's new idea - WTF

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Went to the county school web site and then on to the virtual school website and the site of the provider, K12, and I can see this as being a valuable tool for homeschoolers, etc. Many kids do not thrive in the classroom setting, esp. those who are highly intelligent and work beyond the capabilites of their classmates.

Agreed... but the Sociolotronish User Interface needs re-thinking IMHO... just saying
I was unable to find that interface on any of the sites I visited. Everything seemed very nice. Do you have a link?

Technology has done away with High School! I hated it and figured most everyone did.

This idea sucks! I mean, how are the nerds going to get put inside lockers if they don't go to a physical building?

Looks like the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. (formerly Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.)
if you care about gender ratio... take a biology class. That was around 8:1 for women to men.

Washington state has a very successful online high school program.

come on. let's not mess around. we all know why this is happening. not because it is better but simply cheaper.
Coasting, on the economics issue I agree with you. The school district gets the advantage of the tax income and does not have to school the child. My wife and I are discussing joining a home school coop that employs teachers but allows the kids to work at their pace. I would be all over home schooling if I could get credit for the taxes I pay.
Florida Virtual School has been around for awhile. While it is used by home-schoolers and other stay-at-homers it's also widely used in the actual physical school buildings. It gives a small (or large) school the ability to offer an advanced math class to the 1 or 2 students who might qualify for such a class but would never get a teacher assigned to such a small group. Same for foreign languages and etc. It's also useful for kids who might have been screw-ups as freshmen but now have gotten their acts together and need to make-up credits to graduate with their class.
It's a useful tool.

Sure, NSFW tho:
Sociolotronish -> Sociolotron Looking -> Sociolotron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociolotron) (fron wikipedia)
You can keep researching from there...
