Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Cost for a frame.

I've been checking out these pretty generic straight guage cromo frames at a local LBS. You can get a frame and fork for like $360 CAD.

I'm looking at these in particular because I have a parts bin at home with a bunch of parts. Additional items I would need would be the seatpost, headset, stem, and a flip/flop rear wheel. I have a 105 BB, crankset, 42t ring, handlebars, and saddle which I could use. I've already stopped in and talked to a sales lady there and she indicated that they could incl all the extra's I needed for $500 CAD. I also had a front brake and lever thrown in as well. Question is at this point would it be worthwhile to just by a complete bike for the listed $750 or to save a couple hundred and use my spare parts at home.

I'd really like to be economical and use my parts, I just don't want to sit there a few months later and think I should have just bought a complete bike.

If any one here knows of a good deal on other frames that suit my needs post up a link so I can check them out too. I'd also like to see if there is one with a 1 1/8 headtube. That way I can use my spare CK sitting in my cupboard at home :D Any help or suggestions you can give me is greatly appreciated

why not buy a good quality used frame for less than the price of the new generic frame?

Sure point me in the right direction and I will definately consider it. So far my searches have turned up nil.

Why don't you buy the IRO Mark V frame? I like it a lot! $245.

That frame would be less than $300 USD. Not bad price.

On One has the il pompino... the rear end of that bike is pretty distinctive and should retail around $300 I'd think.

yeah but it's straight gauge cro-moly. that means it's HEAVY and probably not that high quality. to me that frame kinda sounds like a department store bike that happens to have track dropouts. then again i don't have a track frame and i'm not that smart. but if it were my money, i'd rather spend it on something that i know to be high quality, even if it takes more effort and doesn't come in my fav color. to each his own.

Actually the built up complete bikes are light (not as light as my roadie though :) ). Not heavy at all. I actually ran across a girl by shear fluke riding one SS set up and she said she loves it, ride quality is good. Trust me I looked over these frames and they are not dept. store rip off. The welds are solid and they are nicely put together.

I'm not sure about the shipping to the US. I'd give them a call. At $350 CAD, I'm sure that's chump change in USD. It's too bad about the 1" headtube. I have a 1 1/8 fork, headset and stem I could use use if it was. That's why I was looking for alternatives. If I could find a frame at a comparitive cost with a 1 1/8 headtube, I'd be just about sold.

Hey I like that frame. It is a 1" or 1 1/8" headtube? That could make or break it.
