Good for Tyler. This one's for Tugboat.

I was hoping Michael Rich would end up on the podium.

I cheered out loud at my desk when I saw the story on Velonews.com! I didn't think he had a snowball's chance in hell of winning. I'm glad he proved me wrong. Go Tyler!

LeMond averaged 34 mph in his famous '89 TT.

Of course it was only a 24K course.

I'm trying to remember the final speed of one of the TTs that Indurain pulled off in the TDF.

i'm trying to find that too. in my tour de france 100 year celebration book, i seem to remember 37 mph. i might be wrong about that though. whatever speed it was i remember it had an exclaimation point next to it. i'll look it up when i get home.

They deserved it.

If someone is monitoring nbc please post when the cycling starts tonight.

Thanks!

They claim they'll do a longer replay of it on MSNBC. Problem is, they have 2 segments they're advertising on MSNBC for tonight- the first one starts at 1am, which is actually Thursday morning, and the other one starts at 4am. So I guess they expect us to stay up all night waiting for a 10 minute recap?

You can say that again! Costas said extended coverage later "tonight" on MSNBC. Well, I checked and their coverage starts at 1am and goes until 5am... sheesh!

Does it even say at what point they'll do the recap exactly within that time period? I'm checking the schedules to see, because there's no way I'm gonna sit up there and watch tv all night, then go to work in the morning.

I'm getting Tivo. This is getting ridiculous.

I'm guessing more people in the US ride and are interested in cycling as opposed to the pommel horse. That was a ridiculously short spot for the TT. They give more coverage time to one 200m swimming race than to a 30km TT.

yes! happens to me everytime i see a race. and to a lesser extent whenever i see someone on the road or out my window riding along. and now that i think about it more, i feel that way when i'm just around a bike.

It looked like all the riders were riding thier own "team" bikes.
I'd say props to the sponsors and teams for allowing the riders to take thier own bikes to the Olympics, even though they had to remove the logos.

I stayed up until 1:30am, but no luck. Other than the oops-I-blinked-whoops-I-missed-it coverage they had at about 8:45pm last night, I didn't get to see it. Looking back, I should have picked it up on the 'net instead. :( No coverage of the women's ITT except to say Barry got the silver. :-/

Anyone see what happened to Tyler's radio? Seemed like it crawled out of his shirt pocket and was trying to attack the back of his head. I wonder if he rode just all out because he couldn't hear the splits?

I wondered what the cyclingnews commentator meant by "Tyler's trying to eat his radio" then saw a clip on NBC where he was definitely struggling with it and at one point put it in his mouth while fiddling with it. Not sure if it stopped working or it became unattached or what.

I seem to recall cyclingnews saying he was going to finish the TT without a radio. Maybe he threw it to the ground in frustration.

Yeah it came out of this shirt and then he had it in his mouth and it looked like he said something and just threw it away. He lost a few seconds trying to fool with it. I was pretty sure he was gunna finish 7 or below. So him winning is just crazy

I thought he had the radio taped in his helmet and it came un taped then he had to tear it out. Did not seem to hurt him. Oh and Koffee they did show the women's ITT actual with possible more air time but it was on during the middle of the day. Set the VCR for 2 hours for it and opp only needed 20 minutes or so. But we got multiple different people as opposed to the men's, were there more then 3 guys in that race. I hope the cover track cycling its short put it all on.

Yeah, I thought they would replay it, though. I was out since early morning, so I missed it. :( No replays. :(

Same here... and I stayed up til 2:30.

I saw a short clip of Tyler finishing and then finding out he got the gold. Lasted about 30 seconds maybe.

I guess we went to bed at the same time, since you're an hour ahead of us. Uuugh, staying up that late is not fun for me. I couldn't lift my head off the pillow before 8am this morning.

I recorded the MSNBC broadcast last night on my TiVo - in the SF Bay area, the broadcast went from 11 pm to 3 am.

The men's ITT started 1 hour into the broadcast. Like the primetime show it started with Ekimov and only showed him, Julich, Rogers, Hamilton, and Ullrich. That said, it showed much more of the actual race, much more time was spent on each competitor throughout the course, and we got to see much more of the course itself. Even better, they showed in individual time splits for the 5 men so you could see how the standings changed over time and how Tyler and especially Bobby vastly improved over the course of the race - it gave the broadcast more of a feeling that there was an actual race going on, much more so than the primetime broadcast.

The camera was on Tyler when the tape holding the radio transmitter up inside the back of his helmet came undone, and the transmitter plopped onto the back of his neck (kind of funny in retrospect!).

The broadcast also showed the medal ceremony - I'm such a sucker for those things. All told the ITT coverage went for a continuous 40 minutes or so, not counting commercals (which thanks to the magic of TiVo I zip right through)

Then about 2 hrs 50 minutes into the broadcast there was a short interview with Tyler and the MC of the MSNBC show; nothing memorable about the interview but it was nice to see Tyler so happy.

Also, there was a very brief interview on the Today show this morning with Dede, Tyler and Bobby (I had Tivo'd the Today show too, just in case!); it was a very short interview. Bobby had a cast on his wrist and he didn't seem particularly comfortable with it, and he mentioned how he wasn't sure how long he would be keeping it on, my impression was he wanted to ditch it then and there. Oh, and Matt Lauer flubbed Dede's name at the end, I think he called her Dana. Bad Matt :p

TiVo is definitely the way to go with the Olympics (and the Tour - I was able to zip past a lot of inane Al Trautwig moments :D )
