That does give you a great feeling. They just stand there in awe when they see you ride up to help.

(I guess the "because everyone thinks you're nutty" theme goes on and on)

A lot quicker service at the Local Bike Shop. The place is virtually deserted around here in the Winter.

.74 Come mid winter My LBS/ski shop is glad to see me roll in on my bike! The boys in the shop fight over who is going to help me. Because they are so sick of working on ski's. :D

.72 Leaving work the week after they fire a bunch of people with tons of large, slushy flakes coming down and about 4 inches unplowed on the road. Having the president of your company pull up in his SUV while you're gearing up and unlocking the bike and give you a ride home. Actually getting to talk to him a little on the way and find out what's going on behind the scenes and where the company is headed. Deciding you need a new job.

Actually happened to me two winters ago. I waited till late spring to start looking so I wouldn't look crazy riding around to my interviews.

.64 The smoke coming from the parked cars at the side of the road lets you know which ones are likely to door you or pull out in front of you.

If that's been posted before, please ignore the number. We've got a lot of reasons to keep track of now...

0,63 The snow covering the parked cars at the side of the road gives you a good idea which ones are not likely to door you or pull out in front of you. Even the lazy drivers around here need to brush some of the stuff off before heading into traffic.

.37 Being a fixie year round lets you engage in that blather.

.36 Showing up at a summer drunken ride on a brakeless fixie and almost keeping up. But getting some recognition for it, and when they hear that you've done a few winters that way, getting props.

.35 Forgetting to lock your winter fixie up (too busy with gloves, facemask, etc), then heading into the bar downtown. Coming outside a couple of hours later and finding it leaning on a different pole 20 feet away because the other person couldn't ride fixed. Calling yourself an idiot for remembering everything but the lock, but still riding home, 3 sheets to the wind, and not wrecking.
