Road Cycling - 28 MPH, the new standard

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I averaged 28 MPH this morning for 2 miles with a tailwind on a slightly (very slightly) rolling area...
I declare this to be the new standard, replacing 27 MPH.

I found a new ball that gets me an avg of 20 more yards.....
So I suck since I only averaged 15 MPH yesterday on my extended ride home with a 10lb backpack?

ya, ya, ya......Compact geometry, carbon fiber, and now this.
I'm old school, and 27 will always be the the standard. Go 28 an see if it gets you there any faster..... kids these day. :D
On the group ride last week I did a 2 mile pull at 28mph. No biggie. Just trying to lower the tempo and chill everybody out.
I'm sorry. Did I say 2 miles? I meant 5 miles.

Who said 27 was the standard? I thought it was 32... :)
it's 60 if you got one of them super fast aerodynamic bodied recumbents... yup.. 80 is the top.. 60 must be the average... man... that would be cool.

If I add my average speed on the flats to twice my average speed on a down hill and then add 10 to the total, I can get to 27 mph, too!

LOLI had a couple rounds like that. No clue where it even came from, shot 79 one day and 92 two days later. Since then I have played 3 times in 2 weeks. CC in is a week and a half and I can see myself playing once or twice maybe before then.
FWIW at 220 I suck at hills too, man I hate this plateau, between running and biking I can't believe I have been between 220 and 225 for the last month and a half. I did do 44.4 MPH on a decent yesterday though and that is with that backpack messing up my aerodynamics.

28 mph!!! Crap! Now I'll never catch up!
Catch up? This means I'll have to slow down...

Thats pretty good for 2 miles unless the rest of the 50 miles were 10 mph avg.
I accidentally reset my computer a couple of weeks ago and now I'm averaging in the 40's!

Is that with or without training wheels?
In training for this new, higher, standard. I burnt a groove in my trainer fly-wheel last night. I'm thinking of hooking a belt up to it and powering the house for a few hours while I train.

I use this technique, that I learned from an Irish fellow in Galway. Ride your bike as fast as you can the entire 6 blocks to the pub. Drink ample amounts of Smithwick's. When you awaken from your brief slumber, ask everybody where you are. When they tell you "the pub, you feckin' idjit", reply, "already! why I must have ridden 30 miles an hour to get here!" and your friends will say, "aye, ye did, ye did."
30 MPH, the new new standard.

That's a tough regimen. I'm up for it though!

Who works out at 28 mph? You won't even get your heart going. Not even a mouse on a wheel. Twenty-seven's the key number here. Think about it. Twenty-Seven-Elevens… Twenty-seven doors… Twenty-seven, man, that’s the number. Twenty-seven chipmunks twirlin’ on a branch, eatin’ lots of sunflowers on my uncle’s ranch. You know that old children’s tale from the sea. It’s like you’re dreamin’ about Gorgonzola cheese when it’s clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office, ‘cause you’re f***in fired.

That was pretty cool. Did you by any chance roll some embalming fluid into that fattie?
