Trek 330 was made around 1987. Reynolds 531 tubing, downtube shifter bosses, traditional geometry, 12-speed. Probably a good rider you could build up with used parts off eBay.

Hey sorebutt i think thats the bike but i am going to see it for the first time tommarow.
umpadumpy I think the previouse owner had upgraded it cause he said it had shifters on the handle bars and he said he put on a new crankset with 3 rings

Nice to know it was loved. Original 330 had shifters on the downtube so if someone installed STI then they were serious about keeping it on the road. 3 ring climber will be versatile for all sorts of riding. That 531 steel frame should be a real treat, especially seasoned a few years! Did the previous owner upgrade to 7-speed?

I have a 1990 Trek 330 that I ride to and from work. It has index shifters mounted on the handlebars (stock for that year) so the owner may not have upgraded. Good starting bike but a little on the heavy side (mine is about 28 pounds with pedals). I would upgrade to make it lighter if you are going to ride very far. Good luck!

No it he didn't upgrade to 7 speed because he said it was 18 speed. But i was wondering could u upgrade that bike to a 8 or 9 speed in the back or wouldn't that work

I am a beginner too, and honestly, I think for a beginner computer, the cheaper ones are all pretty much the same, there are tons of them on Ebay for around $25. You can even go to Target or Wally world and pick up a cheap one for about the same.
I have found the more elaborate features like Heart Rate monitors are really nice, but they get pretty expensive, and I honestly think I will get one eventually but not for my older bike.
Someday if I get a really nice bike with an 853 frame or even maybe a carbon frame and high end comonents, then I will splurge on a really good computer with an HR monitor, like the Vetta V100 for example.
But, for now, I think the cheapy for an older bike is a good start, just to get used to having one.

For a basic computer I recommend the Specialized sport. I have one of them on my cyclocross bike and one on my mtb for when I race. It is a great computer for the money. It has all of the essentials. It sells for $25.

I hope you enjoy your new bike. Also, it is sort of an unwritten rule around here that when you get a new bike you post a picture of it. ;)

No it he didn't upgrade to 7 speed because he said it was 18 speed. But i was wondering could u upgrade that bike to a 8 or 9 speed in the back or wouldn't that work That means 6 in the back and 3 in the front. Upgrading to 8/9 in the back means spreading the rear triangle for the wider hub, new shifters, casette, chain ,RD and probably a FD. If it's got 27" wheels, there are other issues too.So the answer is yeah, all it takes is money. Often cheaper to buy new of a used one with what you want on it.
