Whats the ghetto'ist bike you ever had....while you considered yourself a true cyclist and trained/raced ect..

I think i may take the cake here for turning a murray baja (so called 10 speed mtb) into a time trial "looking" bike. i stripped that ***** down to the frame and krylon'd it with the paint scheme of a trek 2300 (green/black/yellow)...put some drop bars, friction shifters and 27" inch wheels from an old ross 10 speed I found in the garage, and changed the cassette from the 5 cog toy store special to a 6 cog road type. I even drilled out the frame in inner cabled all the wires..looked slick and i bet i fooled a least a couple of people. Even at probably 40-45 lbs..i trained on the bad boy and even toured with it . Later on I added some lemond clipon's....a homemade disc wheel for the back ..and of course I made my own clipless pedal system with the plastic platforms that come on all those toy bikes(altough I did fall over on occasion from being stuck in there but they DID WORK)..damn miss my road warrior lol

hmm wonder if any of you guys are thinking I remember passing that kid lol

My current bike is a dang fine machine but it definitely gets ghetto bonus points for being purchased from goodwill for the large sum of $9.99

LOL, I got mine free at the dump. (No kidding, I correctly guessed the weight of a big pile of garbage.) It is a nice bike actually, the only problem is that the rear brake sometimes falls off. It is no longer my primary bike, though, since I got a new one in April.

I had a Sioux 10 sp. with Shimano Eagle components. I bought it at a junk shop for $20 about seven or eight years ago. I rode that thing all over the place, including a few 40 mile rides. Beat the hell out of my legs, but it inspired me to upgrade to a good road bike so I have no complaints.
