Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - best 2 bike wireless computer

Hi All,

I would like to find a new computer.

Here are my criteria.

1. must be easy to set up and switch between 2 bikes, often indoors.
2. GPS would be nice for when I'm outdoors, but I can't rely on GPS speed (see 'often indoors' from #1)
3 The ability to auto-synch to SportTracks or other software would be really nice. If it can synch with USB, then USB charging would be a nice bonus too.
4. NO glitchy buggy garbage like the inability to resync the HRM. The ability to update the firmware would be nice in the case there were a glitchy bug


Does such a thing exist??

Garmin Edge or Forerunner.
My edge is set up for three bikes.
My forerunner is set up fro same three bikes and for running.
The forerunner will also allow other sports.
These units are not hard to work with if you are willing to read the manual.
Mine locked up once but I was asking it to to do some weird things.

Is that using GPS for speed or three different sensors?

Each bike has its own speed and cadence sensor. When GPS is not available the Speed from the sensor is used.

Within the Garmin firmware/software you can program in three bikes. With a couple of button pushes you inform the Gamin of your choice of bicycle.
If the plan is to spin indoors you set the Garmin to get the data at a once every second rate. When outside you set the unit to use "smart" data collection.
This takes less time that it will take to read this post.
I have seen many complaints about the supplied software and with the Garmin web page collection. This must come down to either inattention or some other excuse as these are my favorite ways to collect data. Sportracks is a nice software also but they have gone away from trying to keep things simple. Nice maps but just seems to be a lot of effort... (I'll get some flames from that one)

X2 The Garmin 305 Forerunner is a great unit. My only gripe is it is not waterproof. Water resistant, but don't swim with it. I would like to keep my heart rate while in swim training and keep track of laps, but ...
Never the less, in I still think it a great deal.

I think it is the Garmin 310 that is water proof. Made to wear during a tri.

How does the 305 measure speed while cycling? Does it do it by the GPS or do you install some sort of device on the bike that sends information to the unit?
