Just read in another two wheel forum I frequent that the restaurant on mines rd is closing. Just FYI if anyone is planning to use it for water stops. :(

What a Bummer. I really enjoyed that place. Just getting a bite or a splash of something helped.
I wonder what all the bikers are going to do?
Water can be found at the CDF station just north of the Cafe.

That kills me...I have a ranch just down the road. We ate many meals there....I hope there are plans for another eatery.

Yeah - and if you happen to have wild pigs running around, I possess the technology to turn them into BBQ. :)

What? No!
Good reason to upgrade to 3 water bottles on Hamilton backside rides.
Bummer. Say it ain't so.
There's no mention of it on their website, and there were no signs or anything indicating it's closing when I rode out there last weekend.

In addition to the CamelBak.
That's a real shame. I join in hoping some other person takes it over.
It's been a while since I was up Mines Road (I grew up at the base of the hill), but last I saw the Branding Iron/14 Mile House had also gone the way of the Mohicans, whoich would mean nowhere to get water between Livermore and either Raines Park of the way to Patterson or Mt. Hamilton, and no place to get any other supplies until PAtterson or San Jose. Very unfortunate.

Yeah, if it was good enough for Jerry . . . .
Sorry, inside joke. Get John to tell you the story sometime.

Its a tragedy to lose such a helpful establishment, I have never ate there or rode on mines rd.
For those who have ridden mines rd. How hard of a ride is it? If you begin near Tesla its around 2500ft+ of climbing correct? How hard are the ascent.
I know it depends on alot of variables, but I just want to know what to expect if I head out there.

Depends on how fast you go and how much you like climbing.

Not if you're going to the top of Mt Hamilton. That's quite a bit more.
How hard are the ascent.
Not too bad. The last part up to the top of Mt Hamilton is kind of steep, and it can get pretty hot there in the summer. I've seen temps of 109.

When I lived in Livermore, Mines was one of my favorite rides. Now that I live on the other side, I do the east side of Mt Ham often, after I ride up the west side.

Well someone mentioned in another forum that they found some to take over. So it seems like it will re-open soon.
