Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm helping organize the Santa Clarita Century for 2010. It would be great to see some of you BFers out for it. I'll be at the start/finish area & expo all day. Let me know you're there if come by. Here's some of the information:

7am -- 100-mile route (7,000' of climbing)
8am -- 58-mile route (3,000' of climbing)
9am -- 25-mile route (500' of climbing)
10:30am -- Family Fun Ride (6-miles)
All routes start/finish at the Valencia Town Center, corner of Magic Mountain Pkwy & Citrus Street.

The Santa Clarita Century (http://www.santaclaritacentury.com/) features a long, gradual uphill to the eastern edge of our valley, a hard climb up to Angeles Forest Highway, and then works its way back into the valley, allowing riders to enjoy nice long, sweeping descents before the finish in Valencia. Road traffic is minimized on rural roads, with a few, flavorful sojourns into city & village environs.

All routes feature fully stocked SAG stops and roving mechanical support, directional arrows, and cue sheets. All routes return to the finish line utilizing a few miles of Santa Clarita's excellent trail & paseo system. While other users will be present, the paths are paved, wide and not over-crowded.

Century riders start at 7am, 58-mile riders at 8:00, 25-mile riders at 9:00, and the family fun ride at 10:30. If mass starts aren't your thing, feel free to leisurely roll out following any of the starting groups.

For more specifics, visit the website (http://www.santaclaritacentury.com/) where you can subscribe to announcements with RSS and automatically be notified of new information or any changes.

100, 58, and 25-mile routes to choose from!

Tempting. I want to get some really good rides in before my life's priorities change.

I'm not sure if I have that date open but I did the century last year and it's a very nice course - I recommend it fwiw.

Hi,

There is a distinct possibility as I am going on vacation the following week and won't be able to ride. A hard century might be the ticket.

I'd love to do it, but it would involve riding in Santa Clarita. The city that wants to look good. Paths, with plentiful driveways and bad intersections, adjacent to six-eight lane roadways with no shoulder (did I mention high speed too!). A city with people that actually threatened planners when a bike path was planned along Bouquet Creek (I was at that meeting, quite sad.). A city with people that complained that adding a bike lane to a roadway caused traffic problems, not many bike lanes anymore in that city either. A city that has a traffic engineer (Andrew Yi), that actually told me to ride on the sidewalk, when I went to city hall to complain about a section of Valencia Blvd. They had put down, and still do, Botts Dots along a section of "extra" pavement, making cycling there rather unsafe. Ah yes, that city. Had a great time riding Soledad Canyon and other roadways on Sunday though. I was surprised how many cyclists were out there. When I lived there, I was usually the only one out there.

I noticed that riding in Santa Clarita was sort of a pain. But it only affected a few miles out of the entire century. The other 98 miles were great.

Did the Family Ride last year with my daughter. It was nicely handled, including cookies at a 'rest stop'. We had a fun time even if it was short for my teenager.

You're back from living the dream?
Indeed I am. We've been back since October and I've been very absent from BF. We were hoping to stay permanently but it just wasn't the right time, so we're back for a while until things line up better. It really was a dream and I can't wait to get back there.
Been struggling to get on the bike consistently for lots of reasons, but I need to get my ass back in some type of riding form. Are you doing this one?

It would be cool if we could get a good sized group of BFers on the century, like old times.
