So I got a dura-ace crankset 7700 for 25$ yes there are scratches but structurally it's fine, not warped or untrue.

That was a steal!

Now the problem is the bottom bracket and correct if I'm wrong, thats why I'm here for help.

I think it needs 68mm 109.5 octalink type bottom bracket,

but everytime I goto a bike shop, it's over 50$+ for the bottom bracket...let it be BB-5500 or BB-6500. WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE FOR AN OLD BOTTOM BRACKET?

I was wondering would it be a good idea to use a ES-25 bottom bracket? except they don't have 109.5, I think the shortest they have are 113, would this be a problem?

Note*******My current crank is a FSA Veloce double chainring but I'm running ONLY the larger outter chainring and removed the small inside chainring while running a 9 speed in the back.
MY CHAIN DOES NOT COME OFF when shifting into any of these speeds.

will this fit the 7700 dura-ace crank? the length is a bit shorter...is it ok?

You're gonna just have to suck it up and buy a 5500 bb if you want to use that crank

ISIS and Octalink aren't compatible...you need one of the few Shimano bb's that work with that crank (it's a v.1 Octalink, too btw). http://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html#shimano

The length isn't the issue, the design is. There were two "Octalink" configurations, V1 and V2. V1 was used on road cranks; Dura Ace, Ultegra and 105 and, IIRC, XTR. V2 was used on the lower MTB groups and one low-line road group.

So, your DA crank needs a V1 bb and the ES-25 is a V2.

Licktons has the BB-5500 in 109.5 for $40 here: http://www.lickbike.com/productpage.aspx?PART_NUM_SUB='0229-13'

Buy the right one.
