Pedal recommendations

well i put a deposit down on an '05 bianchi axis. it'll be my first bike in a while and i need to pick some pedals. i like the lightweight and price of the eggbeaters but was told at the bike shop they're tricky to enter, they suggested ationsthe candy sl. any others anyone likes?

I had the SL's, pretty decent, better than my OLD Ritchey SPDs. There's some float but it's somewhat stiff. I got the Speedplay Frogs which I like much better. Easier to click out, especially on the run. You have to be comfortable w/ the free float though.

I'm a big fan of the eggbeaters. There is a tiny bit of a learning curve, but once you get it they are super-easy to get in to.

Go with the eggbeaters. I've used them for two years on my road bike and they're super easy to get into and out off. Also mud never clogs them up!

well i found out it comes with pedals surprisingly. looks like the '05 will have VP mtn pedals. i'm sure they'll do for awhile and i can spend a little more on a good pair of shoes...

Been using them for MTb, Cyclo-X and touring for the past 6 years. Cleats took 5 years to wear out :D

Another vote for Time A.T.A.C.'s Great pedal, great mud clearing, just enough of a platform.

Do you have any specifics on the '05 Axis?

I am also waiting for my '05 Axis - hopefully it will arrive in another couple of weeks or so. The components are identical except for slightly different pedals (VP instead of WTB, if that makes any sense...). The '05 will be available in more sizes for larger/taller riders. Instead of 55->58->61, the sizing will go 55 -> 57 -> 59 -> 61cm. The only bad part is that they've gone with a simpler paint job - no more checkered flag! It's been described to me as similar to the '04 Cross Concept. I got this info simply be writing to BianchiUSA and asking them, since I couldn't find any pictures or a new catalog anywhere.

BTW, I will of course be changing the stock pedals for a pair of egg beaters!

Another vote for the Time ATACs. I have been riding mine for four years and my cleats are still sticking in there. There is enough float for me and as stated earlier, mud is not a problem.

What's the verdict on the Shimano 959's?? I'll be getting a CX bike very soon and need some pedals as well. Would the 959's be a good choice for an all around pedal??
