OK folks, here's the rub.
I've been stubbornly sitting on the same weight for quite a few months now. A little bit of fluctuation, but basically still the same. This has been a bit annoying.
I admit that I am not on any particular diet or diet discipline - I eat a balanced and healthy array of food, and I eat what I want. I'm sure that if I got really strict with myself I could get below 200lb/90kg, but that's either not in my nature or just plain not fun. I'm already on a beer-ban until March for a sporting competition, why punish myself?
However, I realised on Sunday that there is much more to it than just the big blinking digital number on the scale.
On my morning ride, I dusted one of my regular riding partners. While he was struggling a bit, I felt strong and in control on each climb. I even had a couple of spare gears while he was up out of the saddle trying to keep up. He turned for home early, but I kept on going to ride The Peak.
The Peak is the famous tall spot on Hong Kong Island. It's about 550m/1880ft. I first rode up it about 18 months ago and was so happy about it that I took a photo. Now I go up it twice on Tuesday mornings before work.
The icing on the cake came at lunch time after the ride. My wife and I were off to a birthday lunch at the restaurant at our sporting club, so I dressed up in one of the outfits she had made me buy before our December holiday in Italy (she said that in Italy I had to look good, even if we were tourists!). I was wearing some nice trousers, a slim fitting and well pressed shirt, and a well tailored 3/4 length cashmere overcoat. So, I'm looking good enough for my wife to be seen in public with me, then at lunch I get no less than three of the other women (married and single!:D) commenting about how good I looked, how fit, how well dressed.
Screw the scales! I feel good today!
