In recent days, I've watched a beautiful ballad written by the late Jeff Buckley performed by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morrison for the Haiti telethon and then by K.D. Lang at the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics.

The song is so beautiful it is a complete show-stopper. Very moving. And all I could think about as they played this piece was Jeff Buckley.

RIP Jeff.

If you don't have it, pick up Jeff Buckley's album 'Grace'. Just a great album.

I'm glad I haven't seen those three slaughter Buckley's song. He had one of the most beautiful voices ever. He died too young.

Wait, which song did they perform? Was it Grace or Hallelujah?

Both Lang and Timberlake versions were absolutely beautiful. I think Jeff would have approved.

I couldn't find Grace performed by either Lang or Timberlake but I found Hallelujah, which was actually written by Leonard Cohen.

You are indeed correct. I did not know that.

But the Grace album still endures.

yes. Cohen wrote one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It wasn't until Buckley sang it that it hit its full potential.

That JB was a genius. They all wind up killing themselves one way or another.

That will never happen to Pcad, because I, as some of you may have already gleaned, am no genius.

Grace Kelly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlEsBaAFPoo)

After watching that, you will glean that jsharr, also, is not gifted with genius.

I get the feeling that most everyone who covers Hallelujah completely misses the point of the song in the first place.

Like how people think Joni Mitchell's "River" is a Christmas song.

Or just performs it really poorly.

And what's the point? You just can't do it any better than Buckley did.

BTW, I believe Buckley's version is based off of the version by J.J. Cale.

yeah, certain songs should just be "retired" once they are perfected-this is one of them.
