Introductions - G'Day from Tasmania

Hello All,

I'm new to the world of cycling, but I'm really enjoying it. I've bought myself a Trek 1000 about a month ago, and am using it for commuting to work. Anyway, I thought I would introduce myself, and see if there are any other Tasmanians on bikeforums.

Hi Chris, I've just had a quick look through the first couple of days of your tour de Tassie. Looks like great reading for a quiet afternoon at work one day. You got do my commute to work on your second day. From Hobart city to Kingston via the channel highway (past the shot tower etc.) It's a great ride for me, a beginner, and you can't beet the views. Cheers for the welcome.

Ah yes, the ride up over Bonnet Hill along the channel. Just sensational! I'd love to have that as a daily commute. How's the job market for accountants down there?

Another Tasmanian here; currently in Canberra where the cycling is pretty good but not as good as my favourite loop from Hobart over the bonnet to Kingston, Margate, Sandfly, Neika, Ferntree, Strickland Ave, Hobart. About 60km - try it some time. Looking forward to getting back down there.

Another Tasmanian here; currently in Canberra where the cycling is pretty good but not as good as my favourite loop from Hobart over the bonnet to Kingston, Margate, Sandfly, Neika, Ferntree, Strickland Ave, Hobart. About 60km - try it some time.

After last summer up here, where night time temperatures hit 33 degrees C, I'm just about ready to try it!

If you're doing the Bonnet twice daily I'm sure it won't be long before you feel like hitting Huon Road. Perhaps from town, up Strickland and then to the schoolhouse at Neika. Once you're past Ferntree it's pretty flat and really fast. The hardest bit is just up from the Ridgeway turnoff, but if you do the bonnet regularly it won't bother you.

I can't wait to get back down there. Canberra is pretty good for cycling but hot, dry and dusty in summer and cold dry and dusty in winter.

Ouch! No way could I sleep in temps like that. The bonnet was fantastic this morning. Cold enough to numb the toes :) nocked another 5 mins off my commute times after some fun rides on the weekedn. I love getting fit!!!

Are you on the Canberra tourism council? You do a great job of talking it up. After the weekend, I reckon I'll be heading out that way soon myself. Did a quick run from Kingston down to Margate, and back via Howden/Blackmans Bay with a few detours for fun. Only 1 and a half hours, but felt pretty good after, still had enough energy for 18 holes of golf (just).
