Northern California - It's DST for Pete's Sake ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone up for the ride on 3/13 in Marin?
Somewhat mellow pace out to Nicasio and Pt. Reyes?
It's the day before Daylight Saving Time (http://www.nist.gov/public_affairs/faqs/qdaylite.htm) so it'll be an un-official kickoff for many people's cycling season.
Here's the route. It's mostly out-and-back with a loop up around Pt. Reyes (80 miles).
(Thanks for the route resources Velogirls)
http://www.velogirls.com/resources/routedocs/nicasio_trainingrideV2.pdf
*a lot of the way out (and back) is via small town side roads (Larkspur,Fairfax,San Anselmo) so the pace will be considerably slower due to stop lights and signs.
* depending on the timing and the group, we could opt to turn-around at Nicasio which would shorten the ride to about 62 miles.

Yes, mellow! If we don't want to head all the way out to Pt. Reyes. We can just do the S.P.Taylor park cut-off like last time with the VeloGirls Northern Exposure ride.
I think this sounds awesome. Count me in (pending any last minute work conflicts).

Without knowing the route, will this be affected by the closure of East Rd as part of Project Headlands work?

No, the folks from San Francisco will be taking Alexander Ave. into Sausalito.

Maybe in. Depends on where I'm at on distance (been doing shorter dirt rides than longer road rides lately). If weather is good, I'll probably join you and peal off early, especially since I'll have the extra miles from SOMA.
If RoboCheme's map is accurate (minus the portion starting at Sports Basement), I'm on the fence. Were there more climbing or no promise of a mellow pace, I'd definitely be out. But this seems possibly almost doable in my present not-riding-much state.

A ride in honor of Pete? After his incessant ringing of that damn cowbell at me as I was struggling/dying on Hamilton a little over a year ago? No way, Jose.
Actually, I'm getting married that day, so I kind of doubt I can be there.
No, really. I'm getting married that day. I'm out, if for no other reason than she's better looking than any o' youse.

That is clearly true, but I'm pretty sure she's not as flamboyant as some of us!
And sincerely Rich... Congratulations to you and your lovely bride to be! She is clearly a major upgrade in class from the usual suspects I see you hanging around with.

In Marin, there are two ~500 ft hills. I'd guess that the total ascent will be around 2500.

Here's the actual route that I was thinking of. 2800ft of climbing is not much climbing.

I was pleased to see that the Velogirls route returned to Pt Reyes road via Platform Bridge Rd. I thought that the road surface on Sir Francis Drake rd. back to San Geronimo was crap, it was narrow and there were a lot of cars.

We can do either. I don't know the roads out that way 100% so I relied on others who do know the way.

Sorry, but I have nothing to wear for the wedding, would be stuffed from the post-ride chow-fest, and Rich already promised me the video, anyway. Congrats, bud!
Henry - I'm keeping on eye on this ride, but can't commit, schedule-wise. I would be a "third" or "half" distance guy, I'm guessing. And that's if I actually get a little riding in before then..
There I go again - whine, whine, whine..
