Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - NEED INFO ON Sekine Gto electronic sports bike final edition 5 speed

Hi all,

This is my first post and hopefully someone can help me to obtain some information on a Sekine Gto electronic sports bike final edition 5 speed. This bike has a shimano stick shift, front disc brakes and rear caliper brakes. The bike creates its own power which operates the odometer (147km) front and rear brake and headlights, signal lights, radio, horn and speedometer. It is very well graphics with lotsw of sekine raised markings and is all original. The serial number is x8 04708.

This bike is super neat and was left by my wifes dad when he passed away. I am just trying to find out where it was made, how many were made, what it may be worth. It does have some japanese writing on bottom of frame making me think it was likely imported from japan and sold in canada.

If anyone has any info at all on these bikes please let me know.

Many Sekines were sold at Sears and have lower end values.

Per below, I was thinking about the Suteki, not the Sekine. Sekine is one of the more obscure Asian brands from the bike boom.

Thrifty Bill, it was Suteki bikes that were sold at Sears, not Sekine bikes.

A friend of mine asked me to look over one of these. She's bringing it by next week. It's quite a bike!

Absolutely for the Japanese market. And, I love it. That is one flamboyant bike.

GTO – 1970s, made in Japan. Inspired by the US muscle car era, but built strictly for the Japanese market, the GTO featured brake lights, sequential blinkers, a radio, racks, and a rear mounted kickstand.

My friend says it's so top-heavy that it's like a motorcycle in that it's hard to hold up when at rest.

Just Found one of these myself. Been working on it with my local bike shop. I stripped all the electronic components off and have been taking them apart tonight. What I have found is that in addition to the front wheel generator there is a 9V battery that goes in right under the radio dials and 4 D batteries that go into the rear end.
I had pulled one of the bulbs out last week and have had a terrible time trying to find some alike. Well yet another discovery, this thing came with STOCK spare bulbs. 1 is in the radio housing and the other 3 in the rear housing. All holders were even labeled.
I'll pick up some batteries this weekend and let you know where that gets me.

+1. This is a Japanese manufactured Sekine. Based on the seriual number data I've collected this should be a 1974 or 1975 model. I sold Sekine at this time and can definitively state that they were not offered in the domestic lineup.

As stated by Kuso, Sekine were extremely popular in Canada. By 1974-1975 the Sekine SHB/SHC was probably the best selling bicycle in Canada and as ubiquitous as the Peugeot UO8 had been, only a couple of years earlier.
