Bizarre...hmmm...nothing too bizarre while riding. But some fun things with my gf while out on the trails...

My actuall riding is pretty tame compared to most of the people I ride with, so I can't say anything I have ridden is bizarre.

Oh and I got stuck in between a black bear mom and her cub...heard her growling and just flew down the trail. Wrong reaction but luckily the bear left me alone :) Scared me crapless.

I almost always see a Game Warden or a Fisherman along the way.... No other vehicles in the parking lot was a good indication to my seclusion... Thank goodness. It all goes back to my childhood I suppose...

Last year when running a FS I readjusted the rear shock while riding.

Well, I'll start off the bizarre stuff by saying that I actually rode in the buff for over 7 miles last Fall. I never encountered anyone though. I was pretty paranoid the whole time. My friends were out and saw Grant Allen, he snapped his chain on one of the doubles at our tracks, and my friend asked for his chain... and got it.

I saw him another time, he's a pretty cool down to Earth guy.

The most bizzare thing that ever happened to me while riding was...
I was riding on the road, and my tyre just sudenly deflated. I went back and found nothing on the road (which was laid 1 month earlier so really smooth) and found nothing. I then checked the tube and there were 6 holes in it, but nothing in the tyre. I still have no idea where the holes came from.

thats happened to me as well, in hampshire (I live in England), found nothing on the road or in my tyres or tube.

I drove for two hours to meet a friend and ride near his house.
Went to cross a little stream very close to where we started, pulled the front wheel up to go over the stream and found out I forgot to tighten the front quick release. So of course it released.

Forks went through the center of the wheel. Several broken spokes. I of course went over the bars. Last time I rode with half finger gloves.

went to some small jumping trails, and found a nice 5 foot gap jump i liked the look of
went a little to fast, and didn't pull up hard enough
i made it, and my front wheel came down, and my back wheel stayed up.
i went on my front wheel, balanceing for about 15 feet.
quite scary, cuase i knew i was up, and i was trying not to hit my front brake to go over.

I woulda bailed. I hate not making a perfect landing.

when your bike is the most expensive thing you own, you do whatever nescessary not to harm it.

It is the most expensive thing I own. Hold on let me think though. I'd have to say the set-up I have currently for my comp. (W/ surround sound and the works) It's probably worth just as much if not more.

Bizarre?

Tried to stand on the the top tube of the frame as I was going at about 45kmph. I almost fell off. Scared me crapless. LOL.

I'm sure many of you have done worse (or better.. depending on how you look at it ;)), but here is mine:

There was a mud puddle (mud mixed with water) about 1 ft. deep and 10 meters long that I thought I could ride through "if I had enough speed through it". Well, I ended up not pulling up hard enough, and "taking a plunge" in the mud by going over the handlebars after my front wheel got stuck.

Damn.

That reminds me of when i tried to go through a stream, but it turned out to be quite deep and my bike got logged between rocks and i floated with the current away from my bike.

Mount Snow nude crit...circa 1996. Certainly less than seven miles, but there were about two hundred people watching. I didn't care...I was just trying to find and draft Missy G.

I ended up getting lapped by Todd Lyons*, who was doing a naked power wheelie around the whole course. Later I found out the women's nude crit was held later (concurrent with my panicked and fruitless search for my so-called friends with whom I had entrusted my shorts).

*Rode for Haro back when they actually made their own bikes

I rode over an alligator! Does that count?

We've got some trails down in North Port that parrallel the Myakkahatchee Creek. Not a big creek unless we get a lot of rain. Anyways, the singletrack meanders through some trees and then joins another trail that the MX guys use. There is a little lip (or small drop) and I was cruising, hit the lip and right below me (couldn't see him) was about a 4 to 5 foot gator. I skimmed his back with my rear tire. Scared the beejeezus out of both of us!

Man, thats the stuff of my nightmares. I wouldn't have stopped pedaling til I was 200 miles away.

I think I scared him as much as he scared me! He took off into the water. He was relatively small, only 4 to 5 feet. We get some big ones down here. Some of the Bull Gators (males) can be upwards of 12 to 15 feet. Don't believe me? Go to Myakka State Park!

If I'd of run over one of the Bull Gators, I wouldn't have stopped untill I made it all the way home!

Hi guys...

This may not be so bizarre as much as just scary I guess.

I was coming down a grade and the rear tire hit some scree - it bailed out on me and I went down. I slid about 10 feet down the grade and came to rest - I looked up and not 2 feet in front of the bike (and me!) was a very large copperhead - and he was not happy about the commotion! We just stared at each other for a minute - I was frozen - he was coiled up and bobbing from side to side ... then I reached in my pocket (slowly...very slowly) and got my pepper spray out. I got in position and sprayed him right in the eyes.

Now... what I expected was that he would slither off in a hurry - the other direction. But in reality what happened was that he started striking wildly at whatever was handy! And that was the bike and myself - in that order! He managed to land a few strikes on the front tire and forks and was coming my way. At this point I thought it prudent to to get off my arse and put a little distance between us... which I did.

He continued to lash out - occaisionally hitting the bike (luckily didn't punture the tires) then took off through the pine trees - still not real happy I'm sure. :)

I picked up the bike and continued on - no sweat. I see copperheads and rattlers every now and then but that's the first "face to face" I've had.

I guess the only really "bizarre" aspect here is that I thought the pepper spray was a good idea!! :D

Hahahahaha...thats actually quite funny. pepper spray a copperhead...thats brilliant. I would write the pepper spray company and tell them what it did. But leave out the fact it was a snake till the end hahaha...thats great :D...

Yeah I can see the ad - a copperhead with the stereo-typical thug/burglar attire (complete with watch cap, crowbar and heavy black turtleneck) and the big red circle with the slash superimposed over him. Ha ha

Think I'll carry a taser or stungun when riding from now on. I wonder what effect that would have had!!??

Hmm, no I think a taser would effect a snake. Especially if its meant for a human. Someone 1/100th of out size would get its ass kicked.
