Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - What's the value of a 1987 Panasonic dx4000?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I've come across one off of craigslist. From what I have read it seems like it would be a good bike for me to use on campus as a commuter.

What I've been told by the owner:

It does have the seat. the componets are shimano, needs new tubes in the tires, I believe the tires are fine. I believe all componets are original.

I've attached the only picture I have of it.
Without actually seeing it in person, I was just wondering what sort of price range would be fair to pay for it.

That's not a bad bike... mid of the road Japanese 80s bike. I think Suntour arx components... I'd say $150, but make sure that that seat post is not stuck...

In good nick and truly ready to ride, DX4000s have often sold in the $3-400 range. Nice bike.

edit: 1987's came with 105 components.

well that's good to hear

The asking price is $50, so I might come out with a good deal if everything is in decent shape.

I'd be on that bike like white on rice for $50.00.

I'd " burn a blister on my fanny , " pulling my wallet out so quickly for that price.

Too good for a commuter on campus, unless you want to impress a bike guy or girl. Watch out, you'll get hooked on quality steel lightweight road bikes... $150-$250 here.

I just bought it. Thanks for the reassurance. :thumb:

unfortunately there is a little surface rust that has caused the paint to bubble up a little bit behind the dx4000. I don't really know what to do about it. One of my favorite things about the bike was the color scheme and Im afraid I might have to sand it down. :(

the bike has been sitting in a garage for the last 4-5 years
all of the components appear to be in good shape and original. the wheels will need to be trued, but they are not in bad shape. it's got a good bit of scratches on it. The original seat was lost and I got a selle italia turbomatic seat with it instead. The grips on the brakes have also been replaced with some off of another bike, and dont fit perfect.

haha
My thoughts were that a bike thief would steal a trek or cannondale on a bike rack before they grabbed a panasonic

I'd like to think that my Lemond Nevada City is a quality steel lightweight bike, and I love it to death.

Depending on the condition, that seat alone is worth $50.

Well done good sir (judging by the size of course), you had a good day.
