Bicycle Mechanics - Heard of these bikes?

I am looking at making a new MTB (for winter)
my coop has these bikes I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of them, I dont know how to judge one frame from another so I was hoping one was notably good.
(these frames 'fit' me)

Company: Fiori
Lable: Potenza

Company: Laser
Lable: Triumph

Company: Oxford
Lable: Alt-1000

The Laser is a department store bike.

Triumph Laser is a crpaola bike sold at Wal Mart for some years. Made by Raleigh Canada, I think.

The Oxford is a low-end bike found at some multi-sport shops.

Fiori was a brand (i think) imported by norco. They made some nice MTbs and Road bikes. The first MTB I had was a Fiori San Remo, which was a good bike. I am not familiar witht he Potanza, but I would bet it is better quality than the Triumph and Laser.

so would that mean that the frame on the oxford is decent and the components are bad? or the frame is also worse than the fiori?
I was hoping to use the oxford cause it needs the least work :P

Like most low end bikes, the frame is a junker. So you have to decide how much time and money are you willing to put into such a bike? The weight of the bike (heavy) should be an obvious tell.

Around here, you can buy good name brand older mountain bikes cheap, really cheap. So there is no reason to get a junky frame. I bought a nice Gary Fisher frame last week for $10. Kind of typical for an incomplete bike (I have several MTB donor bikes, so needed a good to really good frame with good paint).

Quality, (from working at a "co-op" for several years) is whatever needs the least amount of work and does not have seized components on it. Which co-op are you talking about anyways?

The oxford has a sticker saying chromoly steel... does that matter...do frames with that sticker often/possibly suck?

These were in my garge I forgot to look in there... lol

Peugeot made a lot of nice bikes in Europe, then in the early 80s (I think) a Canadian company go the rights to the name in Canada and many bikes - from nice to not so nice - were produced. Without a picture the quality of the bike is hard for me to judge.

I ha ve seen a few 'Nova' bikes but I can not recall anything about them.

Cromoly steel is actually a high grade steel used on good quality bicycles. But a sticker that simply says "cromoly steel" is likely not entirely made ot of cromoly - I think probably just the seattube... this is most common. If it were a little nicer it would have a tubing sticker from a manufacturer such as Tange or Reynolds. Or at least an indication or what parts of the frame are cromoly.

If the word oxford comes in blue with two red things, one at the top and one at the bottom, then is a Brand from Chile.

Oxford.cl. Oxford was the rep of Miyata for South america back in the day if i'm not wrong.
