Bicycle Mechanics - Help Bikes to Africa by helping me find July 77 bike world article on sealing bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

On sheldonbrown.com there is a mention of an article in Bike World magazine called "sealing your bike for less than $10" from the July '77 Bike World magazine.

If anyone could help me locate this article, I am thinking of trying to see if it would be feasible to manufacture a few seals for the bikes which some coops send to Africa.

I mentioned it to the owner. I could not tell him what would be involved but he didn't sound completely uninterested.

Sealing a bike for less than $10 in '77 might mean less than $50 today. That WAS over 30 years ago...

What are you trying to seal? Bearings?all I know is the name of the article. I hope it means bearings in hub and bottom bracket. I don't know why it would cost $10 to just seal the holes in the frame even in today's money.

^Awesome link and not the solution I expected. Wonder how well all those stacked O rings work? And the pics seem to not quite match the captions, but easy enough to get the idea.
