Thank goodness we no longer have to concern ourselves with this (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/scavenger/detail?entry_id=57860&tsp=1).

I prefer Mt Herr myself.

Cyclist 1: Where you guys riding?
Cyclist 2: We're going to Mt Herr.
Cyclist 1: Cool, I'm going to Mt Herr too.
Cyclist 2: Lets all go Mt Herr.

Its juvenile. I know.

Now all we have to do is change Army Street back to its' real name.

I'm not a real big fan of renaming things like this, for a host of obvious reasons. Historical perspective, financial implications, tradition, etc.

That being said - it's so far down on my list of things to care about that I just shrug my shoulders and go on with life. Candlestick will always be Candlestick, to me.

He's not giving up - but his next step is a proposition on a state ballot so he'll need 100,000 sigs or something first.

If it had gone through I'd never call it Mt. Regan anyway.

Maybe "Mt. He Who Shall Not Be Named." or "The Mountain formerly known as Diablo."

Does this mean I should withdraw my petition to rename Oakley as Satanville?

LOL!!!!!!! WHAT THE FOXTROT?!?!?!?!??!? How horribly pathetic can one person possibly be? To squander so much time and effort one such a thing when there are so many other important issues afoot.

I grew up in Walnut Creek and Diablo will always be just that, the Devil Mountain. Kinda benign if you ask me. What next for the "crusader", banning Devil's food cake, devilled eggs, Devil's Postpile Monument, and on and on.......

Withdraw? Hell, I'm all for it!
And Antioch? It needs a new name too.

And Antioch? It needs a new name too. It's too negative, for one. How about Pro-och?

Or, you know, Beelzebuboch.

My sentiments exactly.

But I think Oakley should be renamed Sandville. :p

And wasn't Bay Point at first Bay Point, then West Pittsburg then Bay Point again??

How about Antichrist? That should at least divert some of the attention Diablo gets.

Actually, the story has some real gems in it. First and foremost, the guy who made this ridiculous suggestion "was recently appointed to the county's Alcohol & Other Drugs Advisory Board." One wonders what mind-altering substance he advises taking. Based on his proposal, I'm guessing he has a weakness for hallucinogens and sacramental wine.

And some of the comments after the article are priceless, e.g., "I think they should rename the DC airport Diablo National Airport."

The idea itself is dirt-stupid, of course, but in these troubled times, you can't put a value on entertainment of this caliber.

Mt Diablo is also a major survey point. It is the Initial Point for northern California. Renaming it could wreak havoc with surveys for a very large area. Glad to see the name stuck. So, How about Yerba Buena? After all, if Army Street needs to go back to its old name, why not San Francisco!
