I've joined the Recumbent Trike Club! I picked up an old Thebis 201. I was curious when I saw it. My son thought I had lost my mind. My wife didn't think I needed another bike. Passers by, as I was loading it into my truck, thought I had bought some sort of wheelchair experiment gone awry.

Until we rode it. I immediately developed a bad case of recumbent grin. My son wants one. So does my wife! She rode it down the street & returned. Then she did it again. And again.

It's now sitting in my living room awaiting a good cleaning.

In spite of having sat for an unknown number of years, the tires held air, but I need to order some new tires & tubes for it.

Some observations:
It's not as hard to steer as I've read it to be.
It's pretty quick.
It pulls to the left.
It's fun to ride.
It's comfortable.

Son & I rode around the neighborhood a while. We took the Thebis and Son's CAAD9 and swapped back & forth. In no time, I felt like I was being punished when I had to ride the Cannondale. I like my new toy. My main worry is that I might not be able to return to my DF bikes. Why would I?

It is sorta freakish looking...

You and the Thebis would be a major attraction at any gathering of trikers.

That's a really interesting design for a delta trike. Front wheel drive and front gearing, underseat chain idler. They must have thought long and hard to make it work. Just curious - what does it weigh and is it a steel frame? That's some pretty robust frame looking material making up the boom. You ought to go to one of the national rallys this year. I'll bet it wins the most unusual design category.

Rear steer GREAT for towing.

It's not FWD. Making the BB coaxial with the front hub is an interesting design, although it seems like service would be a bear.

I don't think so.

I rode it again today & its a scream. I can't remember when I last had so much fun cycling. I have it pretty well set up so it tracks straight with no input on my part. I was actually making adjustments while I was riding today. I'm surprised at how much warmer I feel on the trike than on my DF bikes. It was in the 40s today, but I wasn't cold. I think it's a function of not being all stretched out as you are on a DF bike.

+1. It's rear steer/rear wheel drive. Changing a front flat looks interesting.

Actually, It shouldn't be that hard to change the front wheel. There are 2 nuts on each 'fork' end that hold caps over the bearings. Remove the caps, pop the chain off the rings, & off it comes. What worries me is not getting it off, but what's inside it! The hub is also the bottom bracket. Who knows what's going inside that thing?
