I have a rear 700c wheel with 126mm (OLN) which takes the *non* - screw cassette, ie. uses freehub...shimano which has now obviously been superseded. Would members advise me against building the wheel up on a new rim. I only have clearance for 126mm and the hub is in good condition having had a new freehub. cheers tim parker.

If you are going to build a new wheel, check out e-bay for a new hub (RSX). I think they are still available and can be had for about $15.

Since it's in good condition, why not rebuild with it? Unless it has a Uniglide freehub body, you can still find 7-speed cassettes for it. And even if you can't some day, you can always buy an 8- or 9-speed cassette and take them apart and use the cogs with your 7-speed spacers.

thanks for these responses(particularily the last one); it is good to know that 8 speed cassettes can be made to fit the space of the 7 cassette, thus avoiding obolescence as quickly, if you know what i mean! My reason for using my 7 speed hub is obviously that the 8/9 speed hubs are all 130mm.....
