My reading glasses came in the mail today. I only need 'em in the evening when I'm tired or in low light so far. When I'm not tired or if the light is bright, I'm still OK. I'm sure that won't last much longer, though. :50:

42? Wow, I didn't realize the average was so young. I was well over 50. But since I already wore contacts, I just got multifocal contacts. They rock!

My eyes are getting worse however. But not at distance. Only for reading.

I'm nearsighted (things start to get blurry about a foot away from my face). The eye doctor told me once that as my near vision deteriorated as I got older, my far vision would improve a little (but not enough to not still need glasses, of course).

Basically I won't be able to see near or far.

Yes, sort of. My distance vision prescription is nowhere near as strong as it was when I was young. But it now has to be combined with an offset for close vision, so I can still read with my contacts on. One big advantage to being really nearsighted is that I can still read and do close work just fine if I take my contacts off.

I used to have pretty thick glasses (though I've known people with thicker lenses). The glasses I have now have pretty thin lenses, though the prescription is stronger than anything I've worn previously. I'm not sure how that works. Miracles of technology, I guess.

I've occasionally had some difficulty reading small things in light colors against a light background. No reading glasses yet and 43 and counting!

I'm still convinced that there is a youngin conspiracy behind tiny text. :notamused:

My eyes started going down hill when I started dicking around with computers all day long for a living, back about 1994, IIRC.

Although my vision still tests at 20/20 or 20/15, I use reading glasses for close work to avoid eye strain that aggravates some old retina damage I have.
