Seriously, I'm supposed to be doing a short tour in two weeks and I was hoping for most of the snow to be gone :winter2: Anyone else care to vent?

I will vent once it stops snowing, which looks like it won't be until sometime tomorrow. :(

I can't believe the winter we are having. It has snowed 3-4 times already and most years we don't get any at all. I slept in this morning so I could bike commute to work in daylight and above-freezing temps for a change. It was 35 F when I got up at 6:30, by 7 am it was snowing very hard and the temp dropped to below freezing. Crazy. So I ended up driving to work.

I bike in the snow all the time - -
Course, I live in Wyoming.
XOXO - from a former Chapel Hillian
PS -
Q - How many Chapel Hillians does it take to change a light bulb?
A - Thirty-one.
One to screw the light bulb in -
And the other thirty to talk about how nice the old one used to be.
Anyone else care to vent?
Yeah! My lawn has turned brown and ugly! You guys got all OUR snow!! This time of year the ground is usually still covered with snow, and there would be a glacier next to my driveway.
Rain again today! Rain forecast for tomorrow.

We haven't had any snow for the last week except some light flurries, but the temp was 6 degrees when I left for work this morning. I can't wait till it gets above 45 degrees so I can go riding.
And the potholes are really bad this year.

Was just out in Philly. Snow and wind picking up, but nothing sticking yet. Can't tell if the temp. is dropping. Feels like it, but could be the wind. Saw some people riding.
Tonight could be the real challenge, but I am prepared.
Candles. Check
Flashlights. Check.
Wine. Check.
Soup, salad and bread. Check, check and check.
Sleeping bags. Check.
Scrabble. Check
Phone charged. Check.
Cutie pies to share the adventure with. Check.

I normally love it. I just trail run instead of ride. It has been a hassle though since the trails have been too deep for running and parking near trail heads has been hard to impossible. I finally got out for a trail run Tuesday and am going again in an hour or two. If I had know what the year would be like I would have bought snowshoes.

just talked to my folks ~ NY state is getting a snowstorm right now and it looks like no one else is getting any (well, maybe a little bit of Jersey)

I'm trying not to laugh my ass off ;) If you've seen the weather in the Northwest for the last month you would know that it's been pretty fantastic. I've been able to ride all winter. I love mild weather :)

So do I.
I thought that we were going to have a mild winter but now we have set a record of consecutive days with snow cover. We will probably pass the old record by 30 days.
I'm glad at least someone is getting the good weather, and since you got that new shiny bike, you can really put some miles on it.:thumb:

We've had unusually cold and snowy winter here in the Banana Belt of western Colorado, right on the Colorado River. It hasn't climbed out of the 30s since November. There are still snow piles from a big snow we had on Dec 8.
It's supposed to be close to 50 this time of year. Finally today it is quite warm, 40s. Bike ride!
The past few years I did weeklong trips into Canyonlands NP in March and had very nice weather.
We have a 1000 mile/month long bike tour around southern Utah planned for late April. Hope it warms up by then. They got a lot of snow there this winter, there should be plenty of full potholes to filter out of.
We plan an overnight try-out-new-gear-trip before the big trip.
I live in Canada, and we just had our first snow. Been clear all winter, can't understand how you guys in the US can tolerate living in such a snowy climate.

I live in Canada too, and it's like 10 or 15 degrees warmer than it should be. The little snow we have is all melting. We're having spring a month too early, weird situation but a guess good for some early biking!

Have you been up here to Flagstaff this winter to see all the snow? There was an article published in last weeks newspaper that said Flagstaff has had the greatest snowfall of all cities in the US. I think the stat was taken from something like populations of 50,000 +. We've had 118 inches at the time of the article and more since then. That's a whopping 10 feet, and March is supposedly the snowiest month of the year here still yet to come.

Another sunny day in the Pacific Northwest ;)
I'm of two minds on this. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the snow, but it's lasting too long after I've enjoyed it. It's totally messed up my commute -- a half mile of canal towpath that's quite impassible and no decent alternative route. I really want it to melt soon, but there's still 6" of snow on the path. Not fluff, but a heavy frozen pack from three storms over the last month.
But rather than vent, can we talk about the prognosis?
I understand the snow we've been getting is a combination of el nino and some unusual weather pattern in the arctic. So... how long is this supposed to go on? I imagine we can expect occasional snow for the next month if not longer; and even after that, do we expect a wetter than average spring? I have the opportunity to tour for a couple weeks in early April... but the weather may be all wrong.

Screw the weather. I have "spring" break next week and I'm touring whether it likes it or not. :twitchy:

When I say screw the weather, more often, it screws me. But I admire your spirit! Let me know if you head east, I can offer some accommodation.

I appreciate the offer, but I think my buddy and I are heading almost due south from our corner of PA and going to south Delaware to his beach house for some nice "fun in the sun" hahaha. We still don't have our route entirely planned out yet though...
