Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - St. Augustine to Key West

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey guys new to the forum :thumb:!!!!
So im planing on cycling from St. Augustine to Key West and plan to follow the Adventure Cycling Association route. Has anyone done this route? This willl be my first cycling trip longer than one day so any tips would be great!!
Thanks so much, Brad
Brad,
You might get a better response over on the touring forum. Multiday, point to point trips are more often discussed there. The LD forum is more about things like centuries and longer rides like 200-1200km randonees and 24-hour races, or even RAAM. You're certainly welcome here, but I'd definitely ask the same question in the touring forum, you're more likely to get the answers you're looking for.

Check that route. I gave a lift to two riders on an ACA route that directed them up Krome Ave (far SW Miami). VERY irresponsible on ACA's part....Krome is ranked by the Fla DMV as one of the most dangerous roads in Fla to DRIVE on. No shoulder (really...not even an inch), blind spots, constant truck traffic, two lanes. These guys were pulled off at a powerplant and luckily there rigged-out tandem bike caught my eye. We put their stuff in my truck bed and I took them to Griffin/US 27 whre they could continue North somewhat safely.
Telling strangers to bike down Krome for 20 miles is the height of bad route planning in my opinion. I've been leery of that outfit ever since.

I can put you safely through the middle chunk. Here's 160 solid miles from the Kennedy Space Center near Titusville down to Jupiter. This is a combination of my two favorite training routes, north end, and my favorite brevet ride, south. These are safe and scenic and I've ridden all these miles many times.

The map is interactive, and you can zoom in/out, and change from map to photos or hybrid. I'm curious how closely this section mirrors the map you bought. I don't think they could give you a better route through these areas, but I can't help you with anything outside this zone.
Best of luck and have fun.
