Greetings Yankees from the coastal deserts to your South!

Have any of you hardy Northerners bicycled these lovely roads? Hwy 36 & 299 between Red Bluff & Humboldt (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=red+bluff,+ca&daddr=US-101+N+to:willow+creek,+ca+to:S+Market+St+to:red+bluff,+ca&hl=en&geocode=FTkTZQIdStS2-ClLdbkQsIOCgDFadjaHvgQKKQ%3BFZZ-awIdglqZ-A%3BFTmwcAIdr4ih-CnDZ6Jbu33RVDHKeRBy7Culrg%3BFcoiawIdsIS0-A%3B&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=40.543026,-122.536011&sspn=0.777466,1.738586&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=9).

These roads have always been hallowed ground to me, but I've only ridden them on a motorcycle, and it's been a few years. I'm interested in coming up there later in the Spring (with my bicycle this time) to see some trees, greenery, and silly-string roads.

I know the spacing between the stores is more oriented toward motorized travel, but I earnestly want to pedal this ride via credit-card touring and staying in motels. Any guidance you can lend would be much appreciated!

I lived in Humboldt for many years. 36 would be awesome for cycling. 299, not so hot. You may need to camp, or ride long days.

I'm curious about this too. I've also ridden my motorcycle over 36. It was awesome, but it seems like the services were few and far between.

I suggest you post this on the Touring forum. Those people have been everywhere!
