I am tring to decide between purchasing a 2004 Lemond Zurich or a 5000 Trek. Please let me know if anyone has an opinion.

Both made by the same company. Which one do you like?

Have not tested the Trek 5000. Not in stock. The dealer is offering the Zurich for $1999. Do you think that is a good deal?

I think it is a fair price. Fair meaning you are getting a nice frame and componets for a fair price.
A good deal would be a couple of hundred less to me.
Is it a 2004? Will prices come down a little when the 2005's come out?
How much do you like riding it?
If "I" liked the bike, and $2000.00 was my price range, I'd buy it.

That's not bad - probably 15-20% off, depending on the spec - brings it to the nearly the same price point as the Buenos Aires, which I have and love.
You should really test ride both (and other bikes both above and below your price point in other frame materials) just get as good a fit and road feel as you can, so you can be reasonably comfortable you've made the right decision for YOU - what we recommend or like is almost immaterial in comparison

Lemond the namesake has been saying too many stupid things. Buy the 5000.

The 5000 will have a better resale value down the road. If the price is the same on both bikes and you like them both, I would look at resale prospects.

When I bought my bike I test rode 3 models. Trek 2300, Trek 5000, and Lemond Versaille. Told by the LBS the Versaille and Zurich share the same frame so ride would be the same. When all was said and done I wound up buying the 5000. The ride was real smooth and handled great. I have no regrets with my decision. :)
Good Luck on whatever you decide.

I totally agree with Itspd, buy the trek, this way we are sending Lemond a message...

LeMond,he's dumb but its a nice bike for that price,as long as it fits, get it today and start riding.
Go get a custom fit and see which one will fit you best. For me, no Trek bike would fit my needs, but a 55cm Zurich was perfect.
The Zurich is a very stable, smooth and responsive ride. I haven't ridden that many different bikes, but the LeMond geometry is really nice.

Difference between a 55 LeMond and a 56 Trek?

The difference between the LeMond 55 and the Trek bikes is the geometry, mainly the top tube length. If you look at the Treks, there is proportionally more of a jump in top tube length from the 54 cm to the 56 cm than the incremental jumps in the other frame sizes. The LeMond also puts the handlebars a bit higher.

I ride a oclv 120, an older 5200 and it is a very smooth ride, but still plenty stiff. I'm rather light and don't know how much affects things. Test one out and you will experience one of the reasons that so many people ride them. After about 1 minuite into the test ride the bike just felt like it was made for me. It's a good bike for those long rides. But in all honesty, it still gives me the creeps knowing I'm ridding a "plastic bike"; I just have to force myself to trust the technology behind it. It's been almost 3yrs now, and so far so good. I like 55/Rad's answer! right on! :)

Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to be a smartass (this time). Given a choice between a Trek OCLV and a Lemond, I obviously see benefits to both and can't decide.

I purchased the Lemond. Beleive it or not I crached on my first trip out. Tire went into a railroad grove and flipped me over. My Shimano Utegra STI's got totaly banged up as well as my face. Landed on my cheekbone. Thank god I did not get hurt seriously just some major road rash on almost every single part of my body.

Told ya.
Told ya.
So should I blame Gary Fisher for being hit by a Drunk in Aruba last winter.....LOL He must have bad karma to get me that far way....LOL Or do I blame Uncle Jack? (black label that is)....
Hey sorry to hear you went down! Hope you can get back out soon!
Told ya.
Dude, that was uncalled for.
Arielgo - sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope it doesn't deter you away from the sport. Take it slow, gain your confidence and go from there. Good luck.

Isn't the geometry of the two bikes very different? I use to ride a Lemond Buenos Aires and found it uncomfortable because of the longer top tube. It was just too much of a reach and I felt really stretched out. I'm not sure about the Trek but you sure do see a lot of them on the road and everyone seems to rave about the ride.
BTW, anybody know what a good asking price for a 2000 53cm Lemond Buenos Aires would be? Black and Yellow with Shimano 105's and it is in great shape, a few tiny nicks here and there but nothing much at all. Thanks.

Maybe everyone that rides Treks are the same size?
What LBS did you purchase your Lemond from?

I puchased it from Clint's on Vanderbilt and 41 next to the Albertson's supermarket. They have one more left. Not sure what size.
