Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Bike ID Help

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My name is David & I just joined the forum in order, hopefully, get some information about my bike. It was made in the'70s, I believe, and it might be a Nishiki. I understand that there is at least one Nishiki guru her. I have posted some pictures at the following link:

If anyone can tell me anything about the bike, especially model, original color(s) or any other pertinent information about it that I could use for a possible restoration, I would appreciate it very much.
Thank you,
David

Hello David welcome to the forums. did you recently aquire this bike or have you had it for some time and it was rebuilt? the 600 components are not '70s era. the wheels are interesting the 'wheelsmith' decals means they were likely replacement wheels but nice ones. the fork looks odd too. nice looking bike though

I have had it for ~5 years. I bought it at Goodwill for really cheap. I needed to replace an old Windsor Profesional that was stolen from me 20 years ago. It is a good rider and feels a lot like I remember my Windsor.
When were the "600"s introduced?
Thank you for your information

when was 600 introduced. I believe various models have been in use since the late '70s early '80s the RD on this bike looks like just prior or the first index from about '84 or so. same era for the brake calipers

try looking thru this thread for all you can glean about the serial numbers:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?390318-Nishiki-Serial-Number-Database&highlight=nishiki+serial+number
then try posting another thread to the main C&V forum (instead of this valuation sub-forum) in hopes that T-Mar will see it and respond ;)
