Recreational & Family - Sigma BC800 computer question

I just got a Sigma BC800 from Nashbar. The instruction book is pitiful but I believe I have the gizmo mounted correctly. I entered my tire size and set the clock and all that but when I ride it doesn't register any MPH or distance or anything. Everything sits on zero. I have the spoke piece at the same level as the piece mounted to the fork and it passes right by the fork piece. What else could I be missing?

Did you install the computer part on the connectors upside down?

With my Sigma computer I have to make sure the wires connect to the plate every so often b/c they will jar themselves loose over time.

Thanks for the reply. I had them right side up, just too far apart. I didn't have the magnet passing close enough to the fork piece so I had to slide both units down toward the axle where the spokes pass closer to the fork.

please anyone..........i just got a sigma 1200 and i cant figure out the directions on how to set it up. ie set the clock and etc... the buttons just dont seem to do what the instructions say. id appreciate a moron set of instructions if you could remember how you did it. thanks

You are not a moron, they have some of the worst written instructions I've ever seen. And the Germans have a talent for not wanting to translate things into English very well- you know, we should all learn to speak German like them. :rolleyes:

The instructions posted at www.sigmasport.com are about all I had to work with, and I had trouble at first. Just remember to put in the #1 wheelset information first, that lets you set the display to English and the speedo to mph, etc. Then the rest should be downhill.

I replaced batteries this week in my BC1400, and for the life of me I don't think you can reset the display on the Total Hours Ridden. Nothing in the instructions, and nothing I do with it on that display does anything. If anyone here knows an inside trick to reseting the total hours, I'd love to hear it.

The only thing that I think you can set to a value is the total miles, although I am not sure where that becomes available. They are nice units but lacking in the setup area. I don't slave myself to the computer very much so they fit my needs great. Relatively cheap, accurate, lightweight and reliable (once set up).

Ramius, try e-mailing them (there's an addy somewhere on the web site). I had some questions and the instructions were no use. I got a swift response.

The magnet (piece that hangs on the spoke) needs to be ~1mm away from the sensor, if it sits farther it won't work.

I stopped using Sigma products a long time ago but still have an 800 on my kid mtb, the roadies have CatEye wireless.

The key is to get the magnet as close to the sensor as possible without hitting it. Sometimes this takes some futzing. You may need to move the magnet and sensor up or down. I've had this problem many times. Keep playing with it; you'll get it.
