OMG now I've seen everything. At a firs glance I thought it was something to do with worming up cold air, but once i've read the description...............lol Unless you had to ride your bike past Ground Zero on 9-11, there is no way anyone in the right mind would buy this. :roflmao:

Actually my neighborhood sits next door to Ohio's largest polluter. Sometimes I'd like a mask just to sleep at night.

well if more of us dont start riding bike more and drive less then that might be the future of the bike rider

Ride close behind a bus for six blocks with asthma. It's not as ridiculous a thing as you might think. My last one got lost and I still have to replace it, but I used to have a 3M mask I used when the air was bad (like this http://www.allergybegone.com/3m7502.html).

it be especially useful for trips to asia... if i ever go there i'm wearing a smog mask.

where do you live and what kind of busses do you ride behind? The only thing that comes out of CITY buses around NY is worm air. School busses is a different story

Evidently you've not been caught in any dust storms yet. May your good fortune long continue. You only had to take one look at the smoke pouring from that bushfire at Nerang last weekend. Put it this way, it made the sun disappear pretty quickly.

Yeah, i guess i had a wrong opinion about this product. I'm sure i would thought of something if i ever encountered a problem that i can aid with this product. Oh well, at least it got a free advertising........

Oh, and you can be assured that there's a LOT more than "worm air" coming out of any diesel, propane or gasoline engine.

More to the point, it's not what you can see or smell that you have to worry about. CO, for example, is colorless and odorless, but it's taken to the bloodstream thousands of times faster than oxygen, effectively replacing it. Everyday inhalation of typical city air containing significant amounts of CO can have cumulative effects from reduced oxygenation of the blood. Dunno if the referenced mask filters CO, but if it does, it's worth its keep.

Really! Then everybody should wear one every time they walk outside. You seem to be knowledgeable about all the bad stuff that’s in the air, but I doubt you wear one. So this makes me think that you posted this just for the argument……….

Listen, the final point is: if you have asthma, or any kind of disorder, you don't have to ride behind a bus for 6 or 7 or 8 blocks. Bus routs are NOT on every street you know. So ride an extra block and have a clean air ride on an adjacent street. But then again you can just buy this mask and ride behind busses all day long. But, believe me, dirty air is the least of your worries if you ride behind a bus.

that would be awesome if we can do that.. especially riding on the empty freeway roads.....

as for the mask.. i would just use the 3M carbon mask. just don't use the N95.. very hard to breathe.

I commute the side of brooklyn along an industrial park. Every time a car or truck passes by there's a cloud of fine particles right behind it.

When someone posts that only "worm air" comes out of bus exhaust, it's not "argument" to point out that it's blatantly false, it's simply setting the record straight. The cumulative effects of urban air pollution are real, not just fodder for argument. What each of us does about it is our own business.

I own one. I have only used it during the winter inversion (http://saltlakecity.about.com/cs/weather/a/inversion.htm), I keep warm, and my lungs keep clean.

While searching for a legitimate place to get a smog mask so I stumbled across this necessity argument.

Our ride was cut short on sunday because of air conditions due to southern California starting to burn down not to mention that it doesn't help that our trails are inbetween major cities and only a few miles away from to freeways.

At this point it was only up in Malibu Canyon but created enough smoke and ash to cloud the skies and effect our stamina. I happened to have a bandanna that I wrapped around to catch the large stuff but that wasn't going to cut it. I know I should just wait till the skies clear out but we want to go riding at least every sunday morning. Having a smog mask would be beneficial on poor air quality days that would usually either slow you down which is greatly unhealthy or inhibit your ride keeping you indoors for the day.

There are some days, when I'm around buses, or diesel truck that I wouldn't mind having one.
