Road Cycling - Starbucks Cycling Team

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think that it's about time Starbuck's sponsors a pro cycling team. It all works out, the colors are cool and they can give their sponsored riders free coffee and at their "booths" in bike races they can give out free coffee. what do you think.

Works for me...make mine an iced chi with a shot of espresso please. That mermaid logo would look cool on a jersey too!
Starbucks already sponsors a team, Starbucks Double Shot.
and Jittery Joes
then there was the old Cafe de Colombia team from the 80s....and of course we all know what Saeco make.
but I digress.....
I don't think that the Starbucks Double Shot team is pro. I do know that there is a current North American D3 team that is deep into negotiations with Starbucks about co-sponsorship for next year.
Here is a link to the Jittery Joe's cycling team (http://www.thebeanteam.com/home.html).
They based out of Athens, Georgia.

And Joe's has better coffee hands down!
Got a couple pounds fresh out of the roaster yesterday and a complimentary picture of the team.

That would be nice...if I didn't think Starbucks was evil

Well we know that Howard Shultz, Starbucks founder is the owner of our habitually underperforming Seattle Sonics NBA team..he could certainly fund a great pro cycling team with fewer bucks than he presently pours into his basketball money pit!
No thanks.
Lance drinks Peets. 'Nuff said.

I myself have found caffiene to raise my heart rate too quickly while riding which in turn forces me to slow down. Doesn't do that to lance though? I am always the unusual one of the bunch.

Starbucks sponsors 3 large scale cycling programs. Josie Beggs races pro-mountain bike and cyclocross and is on an individual sponsorship program. She was selected and will be riding for the US National Team at worlds at the end of the month. The Starbucks Doubleshot / Spoke & Sprocket Cycling Team (eteamz.com/sdscycling) is an amateur team located out of Seattle with members located throughout the United States. Starbucks also sponsors a small, amateur womens team, Starbucks Duetto. Starbucks also sponsors individual efforts by its partners (aka employees) if they don't fit into the SDS or Duetto programs.

Also, sponsoring a pro-team is a bottom-line numbers game. There are a lot of cycling fans at Starbucks, but the reality is the numbers don't add up. The return on investment at the amateur level is significantly better (and before someone mentions the Sonics, that's Howard's team not Starbucks.) And then add in the very, very high probability of a doping scandal.. it's just not worth it.

Sorry, I only drink South America coffee. Starbuck's is...well...awful. Just my humble opinion.
