I cannot really afford a new wheelset, along with new front & rear racks, panniers, etc.

So I have an 86' Raleigh Alyeska touring model with the original 40 spoke rear and 36 front. They are tight & true, hardly ever ridden and have sealed bearings. Maybe single wall rims-not sure?

I also have a newer wheelset from Harris Cyclery, one of those $149 sets with 36 spokes and Weinmann LP18 triple box rims and Quando sealed hub bearings.

My question is if the 86' Raleigh wheels are single or double wall, and which set might you choose for a 200 mile short tour with my 210 lbs and typical gear on paved roads?

Thanks in advance!

Either set is will do. If you decide to use the older wheels, check carefully for cracks or signs of deformation around the spoke holes (or anywhere else for that matter). Should be fine if they've hardly been used.

If you were going tomorrow the older ones. They've been broken in.
