I'm tired of being mostly housebound. Healing up after surgery SUCKS! I've got a ton of energy and no outlet. I'm not allowed to do anything that will burn it off, and I've too many lower body joint injuries to be able to walk far.

The incision is mostly healed, all the bandages are off. There were no stitches, so that was good. It's just itchy and uncomfortable now. My next post-op appt is Thursday morning and I'm hoping I'll be released to ride some, even if it's just on the flats.

Ugh. It's very frustrating. Just needed to rant.

Hang in there Joel, it won't be long before your riding again.

If you can't rant here, where can you?

Keep taking it slow, the point of frustration you are at now is always a hard hump to get over when re-habbing.
Been there, done that. It sucks.

Just don't press too much too soon and give yourself a setback.

On the other hand, I'm being very careful about my diet. I went into surgery at 147.8 pounds and this morning I'm at 145.8. So in the near 2 weeks, I've dropped 2 pounds. Getting to mid summer riding weight for spring.

The roads will still be here.

I'm sure the answer is probably no, but are you allowed to go easy on a trainer?

As of right now, no. I go in for a post-op on Thursday. Hoping for a different answer.

I've been there too. I feel your frustration, and I'm wishing you a TOTAL recovery as soon as possible.

I feel your pain. I broke my leg coming down Kings Mountain Rd in the spring of 2008. After two surgeries and sitting out the summer on the couch watching boring TV, I was back in the saddle. Just let the body heal and you'll be ready to ride in no time.

When you get back on the bike, surgery will be in the rear view mirror in no time. After two months off after back surgery, it sure felt good to get on the tandem. I can laugh now, but I had to go into the granny gear to get up the little rollers going around Lake Natomas. I was in sorry shape.
You will be in a lot better shape and recover a lot faster than I did. Hang in there.

I'm going to ride tomorrow (friday).

Post op appt was good. Everything is healing up exactly as it's supposed to. I've been cleared to ride so long as it's flat to very gentle hills. If the location of the patch/hernia starts to get uncomfortable, then I need to slow down or get off the bike. So I'm going to take it very easy tomorrow on the ARBT and see how it goes. I'll go in the direction of Discovery Park as it's pretty flat/gentle hills. Just play it by ear and see how it goes.

4 more weeks before I'll be healed enough to start on the not so steep, but bigger hills. I expect Beatty will be out for quite some time yet. And I doubt I'll be able to get ready in time for the Auburn Century. Iowa Hill is just going to have to wait.

We should be in shape by then too. Don't know if we're up for AC but you never know. Iowa Hill appeals to me, in a perverse way.

Glad you can ride again and equally glad you aren't rushing your healing. The hills will be there when you're ready. You just need to be ready for the hills (and you know what that takes).

Got out today. 34 miles, 14.8 avg. Nearly deadpan flat, 280 feet. I can tell that hills are not happening for several weeks yet. Need more healing. That said, it was really good to get out. Next ride will be Sunday with my son.

If anyone wants to come out for 34 miles with an 8yo, you're more than welcome to join. We're going to have a picnic lunch half way.

A bit too much of a drive. :(

Sounds good Chuck! We're leaving from my house here around 10:30. Pack a lunch. Pace will be light, we're riding at my son's speed. Send me a PM for directions/address.
