Anybody watch this show? I found it a little while ago and I've been DVR'ing all the episodes that come on.

I want to join Mike Holmes' crew. Fer serious.

Meh.

After 30+ years...the novelty wears off.

From behind a desk everyday it looks like fun.

Ironically...being behind a desk looks like it sucks.

It was a good show when it was a local Ontario production. I am tired of it now though. His 15 minutes are up.

I can't watch it.
Why?
Instead of focussing on technical advice, the show is a soap opera about MH getting emotionally distraught about others' work and throwing stuff into dumpsters.
Proper protective gear is sometimes seen on the jobsite, but is regularly absent.
And price is no object.

I figure we could just use our heads. Can't be any worse than piloting a desk.

Mr. I'm the Best Contractor and Everyone Else Sucks? What a blowhard. I've worked in the past with a-holes like him. I wouldn't listen to him preach from his high horse any more than I'd listen to the Harpies of Orange County backstab each other on national television. The midgets, though, now we're talking television!

One thing he did that I thought was a really bad idea is to put up glass panels on the railing of an outdoor deck. That glass is going to look like crap if you're not cleaning it constantly.

I'm considering ti though, cuz it looks so great when it's clean. Maybe RainEx is the key. I figure I'd have to pop out there after it rains and squeegee the thing off anyhow.

Besides, the show lacks the combination that means success in a home show anyways: a manly-man 30-something contractor type in a tight t-shirt, a gay designer type who wants to hand paint something a brilliant color, and a hostess with a groovy accent and awesome cleavage. This is how winning home shows are made.

Used to run a boat rental business. Had a houseboat with smoke glass panels in the railing on the upper deck. They were a pain to clean in the Texas sun. Water would bake onto them.

Creepified it for ya. :twitchy:

"Holmes on Homes" is his old show. He's now doing a new show called "Holmes Inspections" http://www.hgtv.ca/holmesinspection/

Similar concept, with just a bit more emphasis on his own inspection of the home. They still go in and fix the deficiencies. For the average home owner, the amount of technical information is quite good. If you know quite a bit about home reno, you might be a bit bored.

I don't think that's shown in the US. I tried to tried to see it on the Canadian H&G website, but they blocked me because I'm a Merkin :(

Meh, just a chance to give his kids a tv intro. Can't fault him for keeping it in the family though.
